Long post Ahead: For a long time, I didn’t think it was ok to celebrate myself. Birthdays, graduations, achievements were just another day. I treated everything the same so I didn’t get too high or low. I told myself I hadn’t done enough to risk slowing down to celebrate my wins. I was always onto the next. Being hyper-independent, I tried to self-regulate and protect myself from my own thoughts and emotions.

But this year, the community I’ve built, my family, friends, and my network wanted to celebrate ME. I really didn’t understand why. So, I stepped back and let them. And it filled me with so much gratitude, love, and joy that I can’t believe I’d been actively rejecting it all this time. They showed out for me this year, and I was pleasantly overwhelmed by that love.

So…Thank you.
I’d be here all day naming names, but you know who you are. If you pulled up on me at a recital, rehearsal, or show, if you encouraged me to keep pushing, if you called me for work, if we’ve fought, if we’ve hit the gym, or if I gave you a long, deep hug… THANK YOU. You’ve shown me what it means to believe. Thank you, I love you.

-
May we never forget to tell each other how much we mean to one another.

🇿🇦☀️ HAPPY SUNDAY!
@jeanbaylor wrote ✍🏽 this song when she was a senior in college — and those who know her history will understand why it’s such a special throwback. What a wonderful surprise to discover that “For A Reason” is extremely popular in South Africa! We had to add it to our set @joyofjazz_ — the room was filled with a beautiful vibe and Spirit. 🙏🏽✨ 🧡🤎💚❤️

🇿🇦 Part 3
Joburg, South Africa — A powerful journey through Soweto. From walking through the Mandela House, to the Hector Pieterson Memorial honoring the 12-year-old whose story changed a nation, and remembering Mbuyisa Makhubo — each moment a reminder of resilience, freedom, and hope. ✊🏾✨

We also pulled up on designer @mbobo_fashion for some dope South African threads — the culture runs deep and the style is unmatched. 🇿🇦🔥

🇿🇦 Part 1
Joburg, South Africa — coming to the Motherland for the @joyofjazz_ felt like a true family reunion! We were embraced with so much love. The experience ran deep on so many levels — revealing the connection between culture, food, fashion, style, and music, with us as branches of the same tree. We were deeply moved by the resilience and beauty of the people — the very backbone of who we are, and a living reflection of where we come from. ✊🏾
