After 12 years in pageantry, becoming Miss Maryland Teen USA was a moment Sophie Pittman had worked toward for years. 👑 Behind it were countless interviews, competitions, setbacks and a lot of growth. Now, she’s getting to use that experience to connect with people across Maryland, encourage youth volunteerism and support other young women.

Along the way, Sophie has also found another group of women in her corner: her @umdalphaphi sisters, who have celebrated her wins, cheered her on and supported her as she balances college with representing Maryland.

Journalism student. Sister. Volunteer. Advocate. Mentor. Friend. Miss Maryland Teen USA.

Sophie is all of those things—and #MoreThanAMember.

Knowing where to turn is part of looking out for each other. 💛

If something feels off, you don’t have to sort through it on your own. Asking questions, checking in and reaching out for support all help build communities where people feel respected and cared for.

You’ve Got This, and We’ve Got You.

🍩 As part of National Hazing Prevention Week, @umdpha hosted We Donut Haze, inviting Terps to stop by and take the Hazing Prevention Pledge.

Preventing hazing is one way we put our values into action—by practicing compassion, acting with courage and holding ourselves and each other accountable. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and made the commitment. 💛

Curious what COB can look like? 🥤

Sigma Delta Tau’s recent Dirty Soda Bar is one example. Continuous Open Bidding (COB) can give Terps a casual, low-pressure way to get to know chapters and explore PHA membership. Each chapter’s process looks a little different, but events like this are one way to get to know people and see what feels right for you. 🥳

🔭 Explore PHA recruitment and COB at FSL.UMD.EDU/Join-PHA.
