Roo pride is on the move! Today with the @kcstreetcar, we unveiled a new UMKC streetcar wrap and two basketball-themed streetcar stops, celebrating the connection between Kansas City’s top university and our hometown fans. It also commemorated the one-year anniversary of the streetcar stopping at UMKC.

Featured on the new UMKC streetcar wrap are students Emani Bennett, Jaylen Smith, Sarah George and Nevaeh Harding, along with alumnus Elliot Smith (B.A. ’26).

The Roo Blue Friday celebration at the UMKC Streetcar stop brought together Head Coaches Turgeon and Whitaker, student‑athletes, the Mob Pep Band, the Kansas City Roos Dance Team and KC Roo, along with commemorative posters, stickers and Roo blue‑and‑gold popcorn. People cheer with pom-poms on the platform as the new UMKC Streetcar rolls in

Dressed in metal and glass, the Plaster Free Enterprise and Research Center at @umkcinkansascity puts engineering center stage.

HOK designed a four-story addition to Flarsheim Hall on the UMKC campus that houses computing and engineering labs, teaching space and shared technology under one roof.

Gaps between the addition and existing facilities are activated for informal collaboration. Each floor of the new building aligns with Flarsheim Hall’s existing levels to maximize classroom and lab capacity and make movement between new and old seamless. Each level houses a distinct cluster of learning environments.

The building houses 11 state-of-the-art research labs, some containing technology not available elsewhere in Kansas City. In addition to engineering students, the facility is open to the broader university and community. Entrepreneurs, independent makers and students from other programs can access lab and fabrication space to experiment, prototype and innovate.

The project was delivered as a design-build with Whiting-Turner. 📸 Randy Braley

Engineering Notebooks Are Back in the Classroom!

As students head back to their PLTW Engineering classrooms, KC STEM Alliance is making sure they have an important tool to support their learning: an engineering notebook.

This year, we supplied more than 5,100 engineering notebooks to schools across the Kansas City region. These notebooks give students a place to document their ideas, designs, problem-solving and progress as they work through the engineering design process.

Over the past several weeks, our team has been visiting schools across the region alongside Stephanie Anastasopoulous, Kansas City Metro PLTW Success Director, to deliver notebooks and connect with PLTW teachers, school administrators and Career and Technical Education directors.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with the educators who make PLTW possible in their classrooms and support them as they begin another school year.

Thank you to our generous funders for making these notebooks possible and for continuing to support PLTW students and classrooms across the Kansas City region!
