So proud of our former intern Taylor who was awarded the Practicum Student of the Year at the 2026 UMKC Social Work Conference “Beyond the Systems: Centering Communities & Changing Lives.”

We know Taylor will be, and already is, a force for good in the world. We nominated her for this award because the care, intentionality and compassion she poured into our families was profound and transformative. She not only supported families throughout her time with us, she also helped the board in a time of growth and change, and we are so grateful.

While we are sad to lose Taylor, we are so excited for her future career! We are cheering you on, TJ!

Meet our WPF intern, TJ!!

TJ has been a huge asset to WPF this semester, working on everything from groups to our Free Therapy Program to our expansion. Her attention to detail, willingness to jump in, critical thinking skills, intentionality and care for all human beings are all qualities we admire about TJ. We are so lucky to have her!

Read more about her, in her own words, below. 👇

“I’m a Master of Social Work student at UMKC ( @umkcsocwk )and thrilled to be doing my practicum with the Whole Parent Foundation this year! While I'm currently just a proud cat and dog mom, I’m excited to support families in all forms and learn as much as I can along the way. It’s the kind of work that makes you feel like you're exactly where you're meant to be. 💛

I’ve worked with adolescents in residential substance use treatment, supported the foster care system as both a case manager and CASA volunteer, and previously worked at a child advocacy center. I currently work in health insurance, connecting with young adults who’ve aged out of foster care, helping them navigate their healthcare and access resources that support their independence. My passion lies in walking alongside others as they build stronger futures for themselves and exploring creative solutions to challenges!

Fun facts/hobbies: I am apart of my local Missouri Master Naturalist group ~ so when I have time I enjoy volunteering to support local conservation projects, whether that’s getting my hands dirty pulling invasive plants, or getting others excited/educating them about Missouri wildlife!

Bucket list item: completing a pie eating contest”

If you’re a social work student and are looking for practicum placement, please email hello@wholeparentfoundation.org!
