I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what would make competition feel more accessible for women who have historically been left out of the conversation.

Because it’s not that women don’t want to compete.

Sometimes, they’re afraid they already don’t belong.

They’re worried there won’t be anyone their size.
That their gear won’t fit.
That they’ll be thrown into an open-weight bracket.
That using their pressure will be seen as something they should apologize for.

What if we changed that?

What if competition could feel like inclusion, support, belonging, and enoughness?

Not easier.
Just more intentional.

So, we’re building something different.

I have been blessed over my years of training to do what I often say is “expressing my love of jiujitsu in different ways.”

Most of those expressions have been through competing in different comps and cities. Those opportunities grew into teaching opportunities in my home gyms and crosstraining with the amazing women in DFW. Then on to hosting @unbreakablejiujitsu camp, and being able to serve the DFW community by MCing at @queensofthemats super fights.

This past weekend I was gifted the opportunity to teach my first seminars by the wonderful people at Roll the World benefiting The Mat Mission.

It was intimidating to think about teaching in a room full of amazingly talented and experienced black belts, so I just tried not to think about it. 🤣

I did my very best to just enjoy every moment. All the seminars were wonderful and different; every instructor expressing their own art beautifully.

I felt supported and encouraged by everyone in attendance and it was great to catch up with old friends and meet lots of new ones.

I’m so grateful to my family for lending me to Rollcation 3 for 2 full days, and always supporting my journey. Thank you, @kari_genesisbjj for helping me prepare over the last month and being my legendary uke. Thank you @genesisjiujitsuazle for fostering a community where there are opportunities to teach and give back.

Thank you to Sam and Cory for the opportunity and believing in me. Thank you to Lyzz and Lori for tagteaming the ladies seminar with me. It was a great weekend!

Next up: Master Worlds!
