SOUTH ASIAN SONGBOOK: Writing the future of Musical Theatre

Congratuations to everyone involved with “The South Asian Songbook” that will be happening as part of the Ignite Concert Festival on March 23rd at 7:00 PM.

The concert features Ari Afsar, Nina Davuluri, Devanand Jenki, Sheela Ramesh, Sevan, Vaibu Mohan, Sravya Saraswatula, Nina Jayashankar, Deepak Kumar, Emielyn Das, Ruchir Khazanchi, Avaana Harvey, Vikas Venu, Savidu Geevaratne, Shyama Iyer, Sajaan Lakhani, Kristen Das, and Utsav Bhargava.

Say hello to more of the team behind South Asian Songbook at Prospect Musicals IGNITE Concert Festival.

UTSAV BHARGAVA is an NYC-based composer/lyricist, orchestrator, pianist, and copyist whose writing has been produced at venues including 54 Below, Green Room 42, and Brooklyn Children’s Theatre. As Copyist/Music Assistant: BROADWAY: A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, Real Women Have Curves (upcoming); OFF-BROADWAY: New York Theatre Workshop — We Live in Cairo. Other roles include Shakespeare Theatre Company, Macbeth in Stride (Associate Music Director) and American Repertory Theater, Gatsby: An American Myth (Orchestration Associate, Music Assistant).

Sravya Saraswatula is a writer and designer based in Hyderabad, India. Among other works, Sravya has written a full-length musical, Lotus & Jasmine, about 2 nannies, one in India and one in Germany. And she's written 2 short Operas produced by American Opera Project What Do You See and The Third Louise of the Gallery. Her work has been performed at Joe's Pub at The Public, MTF salons, Hudson Guild Theater, Markers’ Ensemble in Brooklyn and Woodlawn Cemetery. She's a member of Opera America and The Dramatist Guild. She holds an MFA in Musical Theater Writing from NYU Tisch GMTWP. Her work aims to bring human issues to the forefront and make theater more accessible.

Wonder!! What a special experience this has been. A week since we closed and I’m already missing this show, group of people, and the farfisa.

Massive thank you to @nadiadigiallonardo and Ryan for bringing me on and being so kind and welcoming, @ianaxel and @itsmechadking for this beautiful score, @zachjonesmusic for a shared dedication to Our Town, and @aj__yi for nailing it on Keys 2. Incredibly grateful for these last 4 months ❤️

so so grateful to have been a part of Wonder these past eight (!!) months 🩵 i had such a special experience thanks to the trust and kindness from so many folks, and learned so much from all of you, especially @nadiadigiallonardo, Ryan, and @oconnor.nancy :))

shoutout also to the band for putting me at ease with the best vibes for my first time subbing!! i will miss your incredible playing and all the dance breaks

2025 has come and gone. And with it came frustrations with the world as a whole, anxieties with where I worry the future will head. But with it also came some wonderful highlights:
-An amazing 30th trip around the sun surrounded by loved ones and capped off with an unforgettable trip to the Emerald Isle
-Being invited to speak at the first ever LitRPG Con (and hopefully getting invited back next year 🤞🏻)
-Embarking on a Wisniewski family adventure & galavanting around Poland
-Finally getting to see WWE live at MSG (twice!)
-Running the Broad Street Run again for the first time in years (and I plan to do it again for ‘26)
-An Eagles Super Bowl win (Go Birds)
-The best year of my voiceover career (so far!)
-The small beginnings of an additional new career (to be continued in 2026 👀)

So as I type this out and ponder over next year, I remember why am thankful for this particular day: it reminds me of all of the good, and there was a lot of good, that came out of the previous 364, alongside all the potential possibilities that are still worth getting excited about going into the dawn of a new year.

Here’s a cheers to 2026: May the good be as fondly remembered, and the bad be even more swiftly conquered.
