This summer, I was completely honored (and a little terrified) when @frereslazour asked me to conduct the cast album of their beautiful show, We Live In Cairo. Today, that album is out in the world.

I’m in awe of the talents of our cast and band: @ali.louis, @nadinahassan, @m_karadsh, @iamrotana, @johneljor, @drewelhamalawy, @gokcheplaysviolin, @instazsaz, @dombly, @david_chorowski, @johnmurchis, and @jeremysmithpercussion, all of whom have imbued this album with unparalleled humanity and intensity.

I’m indebted to the formidable music team who created this piece: @mona_s_b_ (and @arigoldhelz via conductor cam!) who helped me prepare for the sessions; @madeline.a.benson and @starobin for years building the musical world of the show; as well as @crosenmusic, @iankagey, and @justinstasiw for their incredible work behind the console.

I think we will always need stories like We Live In Cairo, which is unashamedly human, unapologetically revolutionary, and unabashedly brown. I think we need these stories more today than we ever have. And I am grateful to have had a small part in the telling of this one. 🇪🇬 by @uncle.uts

What an absolute joy to finally see @rwhcmusical on a Broadway stage getting the love it deserves.

I have been working on this show for about two years now (literally, I think last night was exactly two years after my first rehearsal for it) and have witnessed firsthand the care and passion its creators have imbued in every detail. Huge congratulations to @joy and @benjaminvelezmusic whose songs will likely be stuck in my head until the end of time. Special shout out to @nadiadigiallonardo for continuing and overwhelming trust and support, not to mention absolutely killer arrangements! And our whole music team: #robertosinha, #alexcrosby, @richmercurio, @adamjdorfmanmusic, @juliannemerrill, @nyc_pj, @daveleblancdrums and our whole band (+legacy members @danielgittler and @veronisonic whose contributions and energy live on!) - an honor to work alongside each of you.

Mmmm yeah I’d say the @54below debut of Bhargava & Brandt knocked ‘em dead. Grateful to @karlamundson and our truly stunning zombsemble for killing it (or…being killed), and to the @writeoutloudcontest team for including us among such a sick squad of musical theatre writers. 🧟
