This is still one of my favorite churches. I am thankful to have had the chance to shoot here, even if it was my first day picking up a camera.

This was a team building exercise for sure. Between the stiflingly hot stairwell, the three security cars circling the property whom all had access to the cameras and our lack of sleep, this mission was one for the books.

Mills Mall, 1988-2025. The end of an era. Demolished to make way for a large hardware distribution campus.

This is one of the craziest explores I’ve ever been a part of. I truly believe it was meant for us to explore the building that day. We climbed to the roof only to find that every hatch and entrance was completely sealed. After finding an alternate way in, we were forced to quickly retreat back to the roof after security began to search for us inside the mall.

At last, we decided we hadn’t come this far to simply give up. We quietly made our way back inside, ever vigilant for the sound of unfamiliar footsteps, a flashlight beam, anything to alert us to the presence of a security guard. After about 15 minutes the sun began to set and our time was up.

We carefully made our egress through and off the roof. Walking back down through the parking garage, we stopped to peek outside and to our astonishment, there were at least four security cars positioned directly across from us on the street. After a few seconds of decision making, we decided it was now or never. We bolted. We flew by their cars, through the field adjacent, and down the opposite hill. A red suv with another security guard began to chase us as soon as we made it to the car about a half mile away.

Thankfully, we got away and enjoyed a hearty meal while we caught our breath and congratulated ourselves on the success of the mission. Until next time, @slender_photography and @under_explorations 🖤

A collection of some of my favorite bank vault shots.
Bank vaults are, in my opinion, some of the trickiest things to explore.
They'll typically have hundreds of cameras and increased security.
Alot of times, these historic buildings have already been renovated, so there may not even be a vault.
Instead, alot of the times, theres alarms actively screaming at you while you sprint to the basement in hopes of finding one.

Audrain Community Hospital opened in 1918.
After large expansions and a rapid decline of population, the small town was now faced with a problem.
Their hospital was losing them money.
In 2013, SSI bought and hoped to turn the hospital profitable. However, after losing millions of dollars, they sold the hospital to Noble Health in 2020.
For 2 years, Noble ran the hospital into the ground. With mismanagement rampant, Noble Health told workers there would be a "Temporary Closure" until it became permanent.
Furious hospital workers gathered outside and petitioned for months to get the building sold, and they actually succeeded.
What was the price ?
$2. Just $2.
It would stay open another 5 months until it shut down, once again.
Platinum sold the hospital to a private investor, who then sold it to Ziva Medical in early 2023, with promises to reopen. Then, in January of 2024, Ziva Medical announced it was laying off the last of its staff at the hospital that never reopened. Ziva said, "We came to understand the tremendous mess that the former owners left the hospital in."
July 2024, Audrain County bought the hospital for $1 Million and said, "To reopen the hospital is not feasible. The hospital was built for 1900s medicine, not for 2025." The heartbroken town has now come to the reality that the hospital will never reopen, and an auction was held Nov 7th, 2024.
When I first visited in late 2023, the hospital was still fully stocked with anesthesia, surgical beds, patient files, and anything else you could possibly need to open a hospital. All without a single spec of dust.
The beds, ready to accept a patient. The MRI, ready to spin back to life.
Security still lurked the desolate hallways.
Every step I made as silent as possible. This small town cares deeply for the hospital, and to get caught here, I would receive no sympathy. I left, while security searched for me inside. I made a total of 4 visits to the hospital, most recently to discover nearly everything has been sold off. All that remains from the hospital is a single set of lonely surgical lights, a never-ending maze of dimly lit hallways, and an infinite amount of empty hospital rooms.
Live now.
