Sharing the basics of Contract Law with parents and student-athletes is something I've been thinking about for a while. When I talk about the law, I get just about as happy as when I talk about sports and basketball!
.
This one is just the beginning...next up, acceptance, consideration, and capacity -- all fundamental elements of Contract Law. Hoping this knowledge proves to be beneficial, InshaAllah.

Summer growth: how I recently supported my student-athlete sons who have a 7-yr age gap.
.
When I had my youngest 7 years after Dawoud, there was a lot I had to re-learn...still on that journey, alhamdulilah.

Locked-in Muslim Athletes do this:

1. Salah/forehead to ground; to remember that all outcomes are from Allah

2. Quran recitation & memorization; to keep the brain sharp on & off the court

3. Focused reps with family; to remain thankful & remember that no one pushes or supports you more

I don't purport to know what it takes to run a basketball program but the development of our youth needs to come first. I want to see more evidence-based decision-making in areas such as roster size and team composition. Truth is, we are still building our infrastructure, so the more we can learn from others and do the research, the more impact we can have in Canada and beyond.

Stories from my Life; Episode 3:
.
There were those who told me who I should love...before they ever asked me who I was. I remember the moment I had to decide. There were voices -- family, friends, strangers, community -- all with opinions. He was Haitian. I was Pakistani. Two worlds Montreal hadn't exactly drawn a route between. But Islam gave me something powerful: the right to choose. It doesn't ask you to choose a spouse based on a love for one's culture -- although it values culture deeply. It asks you to recognize a soul. His character. His deen. His heart.
.
God gave me the courage to fight for what was right.
And I chose him.
.
Everything you're watching in this reel, that's what choosing right looks like.

Alhamdulilah ❤️ for my family's love for the person I chose. God did that.

One of the best gift you can give your student-athlete child isn't guaranteed playing time — it's the experience of fighting for it. Let them struggle. Let them sit. Let them figure it out. What's even better? Putting them on two teams: one that challenges them at a higher level, and one where they can play freely, build confidence, and just love the game. Raise them to be resilient. The court teaches what other settings often can't. 🏀💪🏽

We've learnt a lot over the years and strive to do better with each passing day. We didn't do everything right but some realizations and decisions were instrumental in allowing our student-athlete sons to continuously improve, alhamdulilah.
