Appreciating and managing this little student-athlete's energy is something we cherish as parents and former athletes.

Our Saturdays are packed with sports and family time, and a long nap to ensure Younus' mood, energy and recovery are properly managed.

This is a tribute to one of my favourite hoopers and her dedicated parents. This past weekend, I had the immense joy and privilege of watching MAYA play against Indiana University. Her parents, myself, my wife, we all wished we played at the NCAA D1 level - we dreamt of it, we prayed for it, and we worked for it, but God had a better plan...these prayers were answered for the generation following ours! And it is so much more rewarding to see our kids live out the prayers that we made.
.
It brought tears to my eyes to watch Maya step on that floor and ball out. I understand the sacrifices, the long drives, the commitment, the relentless dedication, the love, the pain, and the work it took to get there. For many years I watched Maya grind and work daily, and never take a day off. Everything she has was earned through blood, sweat, and tears.
.
I particularly want to thank her for being an amazing big sister to my sons, for loving them, inspiring them, and teaching them how to treat women with the highest respect, especially in sport.
.
Some will say that we vicariously live through our kids, but we don't...the love they have for this game was built organically. Our kids, including Maya, grew up watching us play, watching us learn, watching us coach, watching us train kids. This genuine love, respect and passion that we have for the game of basketball is a testament to the mentors who taught us, and it trickles down to our children.
.
We continue to pray for your success and growth, Maya, and can't wait to see what you accomplish in the near future.

I've always said that student-athletes need to be pushed by their parents up to a certain age. They need to develop grit, and they must experience discipline. They must also be taught to differentiate between strenuous pain and injurious pain. And they won't always like you...but that's okay!
.
Sharing these clips from last year...we were blessed to train with, and learn from, Coach Ray, a former US Olympic team boxer based in Cleveland, who is just an amazing human being! He impressed upon the boys that anything less than a hundred reps meant you hadn't done enough. This, coupled with their father's unwavering dedication to their spiritual, academic, and athletic growth, has contributed tremendously to the boys' mental and physical growth during the off-season...and beyond, alhamdulillah. taken in Cleveland, Ohio by @underratednomore

We are grateful for the way God's plan continues to bless our family's basketball journey, and for every single person who has supported them thus far. This week, we moved our two eldest sons to Phoenix--entrusting them to an incredible program and staff @bellavistacollegeprep who will not only elevate their game, but will undoubtedly challenge them in the classroom, and beyond! Training daily alongside some of the best high school athletes in North America is an opportunity only Allah could provide, and though it's never easy to let go, our hearts are full knowing that they are exactly where the All Wise wants them to be.

Thank you, God...the last 10 days of Ramadan are upon us.

I pray to the Lord of the worlds, that you, my love, remain always under His shade. I have so much to be thankful for...countless blessings...but this post is about my prayers for you POÈME, @underratednomore -- my soul mate.

21 years of being your wife, alhamdulillah. I know you don't do anniversaries but for this special day to have coincided with Ramadan, means I can be even more intentional about thanking Allah for you.
.
I pray you see the gardens of heaven and taste its rivers of honey.
.
I pray your book reads heavy with good deeds.
.
I pray that God, through His infinite mercy, erases every misstep of yours.
.
I pray your salah opens every door for you -- both in this life and the next.
.
I pray you laugh more with every passing day and that each smile weighs heavy on your scale.

I pray fatherhood helps open the gates of Jannat-ul- Firdaus for you.

I pray you fulfill every responsibility God places upon your shoulders to the best of your ability.

After a year of Muhammad playing high school basketball in the US, our family planned on returning to Canada. But Allah had other plans for our two older boys, alhamdulillah. We found a great school that had a powerhouse basketball program, mashaAllah! You see, when something is written for you, it'll never miss you -- a teaching that exemplifies the grandeur of God's mercy. You need not worry about others...you do your part, and Allah takes care of the rest. It isn't always easy to live like this, but we strive to teach our sons that this is the proper way -- it's how one maintains balance and peace in one's life.

My love, my Queen, my Inspiration, my Strength, my Best Friend, my Greatest Blessing, and now my Barrister & Solicitor. There are no words great enough to tell you how much I am proud of you. You inspire me, our kids, our family and friends in so many ways. I cannot think of anyone who embodies the best qualities of this profession more than you. Your integrity, sincerity, compassion and intellect is second to none. You are always guided by God with a clean heart. You taught me that love is stronger than fear and that with God and faith I can accomplish anything. I have no doubt that you will uplift the standards of this profession. In fact you already have. Before you even entered the profession, God tested your integrity and purity of your heart and once again you passed with flying colors.

I am honored to call you my wife and to have fulfilled half of my Deen with you. God is great, God is kind, God is the King of kings, God is the Judge of judges, God is most just, God is all seeing, God is all knowing and as long as you continue to put God first, you will keep being successful. My greatest successes are you and our kids accomplishments.

Forcing our student-athletes to let the ball bounce once before going for the board. This makes them actually box out a player instead of just jumping to get the ball.

Don't get out of your defensive position for every shot fake. Staying low helps you recover faster, slide faster, stay in front of your man better, and box out the shooter faster.
