Pomegranates!!! Such an interesting fruit 🤩 bright red and leathery skin, and holds hundreds of “Arils” inside…

At our FOODventures Club, we explore a new fruit or vegetable every few weeks. And this week, we are exploring Pomegranates!
- The kids were absolutely shocked to see the inside of the fruit - so much so that one of my sensitive students had to walk away from the table once the juices started flowing…
- Some kids helped to remove the arils (containing the edible seeds) and ate hands full of them. Great job working on their fine motor skills.
- Yet others helped to remove the white membranes, or just watch from a distance.
- And some others helped with the clean up afterwards.

The FOODventures Club is an inclusive program and each child explores new foods per their comfort. Some kids dive right in and taste all the foods, some love using recipes, and some watch from a safe distance. This builds on their comfort and sense of safety around new foods, and they all support and cheer each other on 🎉

Stay tuned for more FOODventures in the future…

FOODventures Club!!

🍎 Where we explore healthy foods in a fun, calm, and supportive way….
🍎 Where we get curious about seasonal fruits and vegetables and learn their health benefits…
🍎 Where children are welcome to participate IF they eat and HOWEVER they want…
🍎 Where eating healthy foods may be a happy by-product!! Never any pressure to eat (but the kids may want to because they have had a chance to explore, engage, learn about and make a snack themselves)

Taking inspiration from Dr. Yum’s curriculum @picky_eater_partners and creating new adventures with the beautiful children @uniquelyyoulearningcenter !

Stay tuned for more FOODventures 😋

🌟 Mix Roll Enjoy Workshop: Success Alert 🌟

April is Autism awareness month, As commitment to Autism awareness, we successfully conducted the “Mix, Roll, Enjoy!” Food & Sensory Workshop for kids with autism. It was an incredible experience to conduct the workshop.

🧠 Amruta Potdar led an engaging session on feeding techniques, textures, and shared practical tips to support parents.

🍴 I had the joy of doing live Four no-bake snack demo, including a hands-on energy ball-making activity where every child received an individual kit, mixed ingredients, and took home their own delicious snack!

🥄 I focused on breaking down the nutrition benefits of each ingredient and offered simple tips to help parents navigate balanced eating at home.

The kids were curious, engaged, and full of joy and the parents left empowered with new tools and ideas. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful sponsors & supporters, and to Uniquely You for generously providing their amazing space. Together, we created a space of learning, sensory joy, and community!

Found this old video of my then preschooler daughter 😍

She wanted to help cook that day, and she had just learned how to use her little kid knife. So we discussed some ideas, and finally decided that she would make a fruit salad for the whole family!!!

🍐 She selected the fruits, washed and dried them, and sliced and diced away. I prepped a little - removing the seeds of the pear, removing the tops of strawberries - but only because she asked me to help with those tasks.

🍓 Did you notice how she ate some strawberries while she was slicing them? 😀 "I really love strawberries Daddy!", she said to her Dad... This is one way to create adventurous food explorers.

🍌 See... it took us several days, weeks, months, to get here! I started including her in meal prep at least a year before the day of this video. Now, not all kids may take that long, but she was always guarded with new people, new environments, new things, and also new foods. But we talked about how different foods look, smell, taste, feel in our hands and in our mouths, and she watched us eat a wide variety of foods. We took her grocery shopping when possible, and she helped put foods away in the pantry. Then she started gathering foods for recipes, and helping me prep. And, when she was ready, I gave her complete agency, and she rocked!!!

❤️ Can you imagine her proud and excited face when she finished making that fruit salad all by herself? She had us take pictures and send them to everyone she knew 😊

💫 A lot can happen when children feel like they have agency over their bodies, their work, their decisions. And as parents, we can do a lot to create this safe and expectation-free and guilt-free environment for them.

At our MIX, ROLL, ENJOY! workshop for children with Autism and their parents, we will discuss tips and tricks to create these safe spaces within your home, build agency for children, and find ways for them to explore various foods in a fun and playful way.

The workshop is this Sunday, April 6th, at 10:30 am at UYLC, Plano @uniquelyyoulearningcenter

Registration is free, and we have just a couple spots left! See you there...

We are so excited about our upcoming event “Mix, Roll, Enjoy! A Fun, Food and Sensory Workshop” on Sunday, April 6th at 10:30 am.
