Not all doom, gloom and boom. 🍀🌱🧩🪲 When speaking to peers and professionals, I share that we have a choice either to lean into a positive, optimistic and productive narrative. We have agency, privilege and opportunity to lead. We can either squander it by being negative, and pessimistic. This is not particularly useful. It just adds to the dominant voices. Or we can look at this moment as an opportunity to emerge with a narrative this serves us better. It’s the classic Adrian Gore approach, which is where I got this image from. Sure, life is tough and we’ve been breathing through the wound for long. We’ve lost too much, too often. And so it’s warranted to find it hard to be hopeful. But now we have evidence of a turnaround, that can be accelerated by attitude, character and narrative. Choose positivity. Choose confidence. Choose optimism. Even when it’s hard to do so. It’s a better perspective for nurturing growth. #LifeIsAboutChoice #ChooseHope #ChoosePositivity #ChooseOptimism

Thank you @tbotouch and @lootlove2 for a dope interview. You patiently and gracious offered us plenty time to ventilate the issues of @save.sa.film.jobs and the film rebate. Moreover we got to engage on issues affecting all creatives, which you are clearly very passionate about. We are excited to build bridges in the creative economy. Being organised is our number one priority. The Coalition has shown us what is possible with a compelling vision, a focused plan, courageous leadership and investing time. We can shift things. We will be reaching to various other sub-sectors of the creative sector, to discuss how we build together. The rebate is a proxy for many instruments built to help us, but are rather failing us. It’s not a film and TV issue, it’s an industry issue. See you soon. CREATIVITY IS OUR SUPERPOWER. ⭕️🙏🏾☝🏾🇿🇦🫶🏾📻🔥

UNITE AT WORK in SOWETO. ☝🏽🇿🇦 Getting communities to draft their own CHANGE PLANS on how to tackle the most urgent and challenging issues. People are tired of manifestos, they want plans. We must stop assuming people are lazy and bankrupt of ideas. Given the platform and space, the solutions will come from communities. 💭💬⭕️ CHANGE PLANS must then be implemented by CHANGE CHAMPIONS - leaders of communities that have the understanding, commitment and care to make things happen. 💥🚀🫶🏾💡

Ministerial interference undermines democracy and freedom of expression. We need leadership with restraint. McKenzie must go.

Ten days have come and gone since Premier Panyaza Lesufi promised that all learners would be placed in schools. That promise has not been fulfilled. The online placement system has clearly failed to accommodate all learners. As we speak, many children in Soweto are still not in class. Education cannot be managed through false promises and ineffective systems. Remember this when you vote in the local government elections. Our children deserve better.

Yesterday I shared a video about our greatest pandemic - The Triple Threat (TTT). TTT is made up young black men without work, alcohol abuse and illegal guns. On the same day, in the news, I picked up that in the Eastern Cape, the police seized 10 AK-47 rifles, magazines, 100 cartridges,10 cleaning kits, four pouches and 10 oil canisters at a woman’s house. These look like brand new guns ready for war. We are at war with ourselves. The numbers don’t lie. The maths tells me that a group of unemployed black men are going to be organised by some gang leader for some criminal activity. It will likely involve robbery to access more guns, cars and money, further resourcing violent crime. These men either met at some drinking hole, and organize themselves around heavy drinking to build up courage to commit heinous crimes, and gloat when they succeed. The end game, mass murder, carnage and chaos. Violence funds lifestyle and survival. Ladies and gents, unemployed black men, alcohol abuse and illegal guns are an absolute priority. If we cannot put people to work, enable them to earn a living, activate their life purpose, remain sober and stay away from guns, we cannot solve any other problem we have. Because nothing grows in fear. And right now, we are terrified. Let’s create work and jobs for young black men. Let’s over index on support for the black boy child. Let’s have a healthier relationship with booze. Let’s remove illegal guns from our streets Let’s avoid legal guns becoming illegal. That’s how we become a safer nation. And trust me, when SA is safe, we will become one of the best countries in the world, because our true potential will shine through, and that will invite prosperity for all.
