At the top of the year, we had the honor of producing Remains of What We Hold, a two-month artist exhibition and residency at Joyce Soul & Sea @joyce_dtla featuring Inglewood-based abstract artist Ashley Cole @ashley.cole__ , curated and hosted by @unmet.us

Throughout the residency, we had the opportunity to bring people together through weekly programming, from Work From Joyce Wednesday coworking sessions and Thursday Night Jazz in partnership with @actuallounge , to our annual Black in the Arts Mixer.

More than anything, we’re grateful for the community that made this experience so special. Thank you to everyone who took the time to show up, engage, connect, and experience the exhibition with us. Your presence truly meant so much.

A huge thank you to @mikaylalrodriguez for continuing to create space for artists of color and championing their stories and visibility. To Prince and the entire Joyce team, thank you for your warmth, hospitality, support, and, of course, the incredible food. And to Ashley, thank you for trusting us to share your work and for giving us a glimpse into your family history and storytelling through the lens of abstract art.

We’re grateful for what was created, the conversations that came from it, and the community that continues to grow around it.

Hello world !! Slightly long winded video detailing my latest installation in the beverly center @looksforlease , which is an in person extension of the art publication that is available for pre order now - curated by the wonderful @mikaylalrodriguez in collaboration with @snapcollectiveworld and @unmet.us . Midway through this video i talk about the backstory behind the two images that are on view in the store and printed onto a garment that you (yes you) can purchase. You can cop the garment, you can pre order the book, AND you can slide to the artist panel that we’re doing tomorrow. Look at how many options you have to support your favorite local artist!!! and curator!!! and black owned business!!! Tap tf in ! And thank you for listening 🫶🏽

went out with a bang sending off a worldbuilder & TOPIAN @mikaylalrodriguez to London and raising nearly $500 to help her with her visa and housing fees.

I get the honor of contributing a set of some songs to this beautiful event.

one of my dearest friends Mikayla has been accepted into the Exhibition Studies masters program at Central Saint Martins in London :’) While she’s secured some great scholarships, she needs our support to cover the remaining expenses that would help her secure a student visa + housing upon her arrival in the UK. So TOPIA & UNMET are collaborating on a benefit concert in support of her following this dream.

And I’m not the only one using my art to support Mikayla.

PORTALS and UNMET are excited to announce the curation of our emerging exhibition, The He(art) of Storytelling and we are seeking multimedia artists, archivists, storytellers, and performers with a story to tell.

This call is open to the artists, archivists and storytellers whose work explores the legacy of oral traditions, storytelling, and remembrance as an act of resistance to censorship and erasure.

The opening reception will take place in Los Angeles, but we are accepting submissions from artists based in and outside of LA.

The deadline for submissions is August 14th.
