As everyone wraps up their 2025 and reflects on their accomplishments this year, I want to shoutout everyone that simply survived. This year, something I have been hesitantly finding the courage to open up about in this space has been my experience with infertility & recurrent pregnancy loss.

But, I’m literally just a random book account, why would anyone care? Well, these topics are still considered incredibly taboo to talk about and leave women feeling isolated and alone. Even though 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss and 1 in 6 couples experience infertility, few know much about these topics until they have experienced it themselves.

When I was in my darkest place this year, I was searching for others with experiences I could relate to. Thankfully, I have a great support system (you da best!), but I still found comfort in finding random Instagram accounts that put my feelings into words & helped me realize other people had experienced similar things. Even though posting about this is scary, if I can make even one person feel a little less alone, it’s worth it. Plus, more awareness = more research funding & better fertility insurance coverage… right??

For now, I’ll leave you with some book recs from this year that either taught me, helped me process, or felt relatable. (& some facts about fertility and RPL… the teacher in me can’t help but educate!)

Some more poetry love! I spent the longest time chatting with the folks at @unsolicitedp and it’s the booth I bought the most books from! I’m so guilty of judging a book by its cover, and these immediately caught my eye. I love seeing art with poetry because it makes the experience more evocative.

I loved Meriwether Clarke’s latest poetry book, Body Memory, out from Unsolicited Press in October 2025, and being introduced to her work at a poetry reading at UC Irvine a couple weeks ago. A feminist perspective of the body, the male gaze, and how it is internalized and fought against, these poems speak to the broadly relatable experience of growing up in American “girlhood,” and the ways our bodies become the subjects of both shaming and fixation. Meriwether’s language and imagery are careful, precise, praiseworthy, and commanding. An excellent new read.

Tabled at the @smclibraries Indie Author Fest & ran into fellow Year of Womxn author @iblieveindragons 🤩! Also got to pet the sweetest Giant Schnauzer (!!!) & wowza is the Belmont Public Library pretty.

Thanks to Dek, Sam, Greta, Katie & the rest of the crew who set this up. Librarians are the very best of us.

Stopped by Black Dog Books today on the way home from the Poconos and was thoroughly impressed. It checked off so many boxes of a great indie bookstore:
- I left with a book I didn’t know existed before entering ✅
- a great selection of indie books (including Paul Bomba and a fellow Unsolicited Press writer!) ✅
- a local authors section ✅
- free candy ✅
