Fear Is A Futile Little Bitch -

I cried most of the time I was here, but I didn’t tell you…I came to Ensenada for peace and clarity, but instead I was met with a roar. FIRST I WAS MET WITH A ROAR. See the discomfort and the suffering brought me to the peace… eventually. I needed to end something and I didn’t want to. Everything about the situation felt dead to me and out of alignment but I wanted it to work, so I resisted leaving and I let the disconnect build for two more weeks, until I was unable to hide it, unable to drown it.

Fear is a futile little bitch, it will keep you small. It’ll tell you that what you desire is not possible, and who you are needs to be smushed into a box that is too small for you.

You have an inner knowing, it will tap, tap, tap saying “hey, what are we doing here, we really don’t like this for us. Something feels really off, can we leave now?” But you’ll ignore it because you’re not sure if your spirit is talking or your trauma is talking. But it doesn’t matter which one it is, because the things and people that align with you will be able to communicate and commune with you. Nothing and no one is “perfect” for you, that’s ok, but there is a deep and beautiful confidence within you that believes, trust, and knows that this suffering you might be experiencing can end whenever you want it to. The tap, tap, tap, is soft at first, you don’t have to wait for it to become a roar to make a move.

P.S The peace was found nearly immediately after I released the thing I was afraid to let go of. ✨

What advice would you give to yourself or someone else who is suffering and struggling to let go?

I’m not the massively soft hearted, naive woman I was when I first started spending time in Skid Row. It takes more to move me, but also I no longer seek to be moved. It’s much more straightforward to me now.

You go someplace to help?

1. Get over yourself (if you need to) You’re not a savior and probably don’t know what’s going on the first, second, or fifth time you temporarily enter an environment that isn’t your own. Check yourself with how you try to “solve” other people’s problems. The problems you see might not even be the ones they care about.
2. Don’t worry about helping perfectly. Giving and being helpful can get very convoluted. Check your reasons for wanting to do whatever it is you’re looking at doing, don’t be too hard on yourself if you aren’t 100% altruistic, almost no one is, but your motives do matter. Exploitation is real, you can tell a story properly without being exploitive.
3. Everyone you meet in an environment in which they are suffering or appear to be suffering more than the average person… that’s not all they are. Allow people space to be the fullness of who they are. Not a fixed idea of who you think they are, how sad, miserable or in need they are. I meet people all the time who are in difficult circumstances but they have a real smile on, we talk like friends…it’s weird to talk to people you don’t know like… you know them and assume their day or life.
