.

Practicing Practice(s) Event #2
English below]
.
.

These are portraits of the immigrant s3xworkers from Patpong. I met them during Covid years and with each of them shared moving moments together. I want to honor their beauty and grace in these pastel drawings. However since their occupation is still considered shameful and illegal, i couldn't use their real name in the drawings. Instead, i chose a piece of classical music to describe each of them. In a way this also signify the romanticisation of their (mostly) Westerner clients. So happy to be exhibiting these pieces with @unthaitled at @thailand_biennale . Please come to our sala in Phoonpol, right in the middle of the red-light district of Phuket! They are on display now until 30th of April.

The Artificial Sun and Somatic Moon invites participants to move between two poles—the intuitive and the constructed, the solar and the lunar. In Kathu, the Chao Fah Power Station hosts The Artificial Sun, named in part after Chantana Tiprachart’s new commission. Artworks by Tiprachart, Taloi Havini, Ibrahim Mahama, and Niwat Manatpiyalert reanimate this former tin-mining site, transforming its industrial past into a field of light and renewal.

Across Phuket Old Town and Rawai, The Somatic Moon unfolds through dream states, time capsules, and embodied encounters. At the Mellow Pillow Hotel, a former place of rest is reawakened as a site of gathering, featuring new commissions by Speedy Grandma, Koneksi Tamalanrea, Saroot Supasuthivech, Mochu & Merve Ertufan, and Thuy Tien Nguyen. Zhao Yao’s installation will also open to the public at Jui Tui Shrine. As the sun sets over Promthep Cape, Nolan Oswald Dennis’s Timepiece will measure the lunar cycle.

What a september (im sorry im bit nerdy)

I wanna thank you (and feel so honored by) @psxcharmaine for inviting me to be part of opening MAKE A TRAVEL OF YOUR INSIDE DEEP AND DONT FORGET ME TO TAKE solo show at the @palaispopulaire (now opening for you all to see a while) along w empress @ongjolene of the @eseacontemporary

alongside all great friends and comrades Charmaine has along the way, we support you - and this Cantopop song from Anita Mui is now the season's earworm

(later slides)

i wanna thanks @sinematranstopia
@cansungu and Christine Kopf @_bjschmitt of @dff.film for supporting my research on WANDERING CIRCUS a film from Vietnam 1988 , 35mm , that found its way to DFF Frankfurt collection in 1992 and remains (as Bjorn said) "in beauty sleep" for 30 years

Now i have a chance to "awake" it and hopefully bring this 35mm back to screening circulation. (Thanks @trigonfilm for subtitles)

along with 16mm of TONGPAN (Thailand 1978) Can Sungu found via help of Gary in Munich from Filmverleih Genossenschaft, now in collection of Sinema Transtopia. This proves that "Third Cinema" has always been a place for anti-imperial anti-colonial (and often censored) narratives

as part of THE PAST IS NOT ANOTHER COUNTRY , i curated a reading/sound by @sisumon @___7.o__o7 of @unthaitled , short film by @arlettequynhanhtran Lena Bui and read w @ioechipchip

and hope for more to come, to awaken and live these films together with ya 🍑

Beginning with ELYSIUM VÔ BỜ (2024, 10 min), a short that traces a collective ritual celebrating the destruction of a hydroelectric dam, the evening continues with a #16mm screening of TONGPAN (1977, 62 min), a banned hybrid doc from Thailand’s student democracy era, made in collaboration with a local farmer.

Kostenlose Veranstaltung, keine Tickets erforderlich, einfach vorbeikommen!
