Hello everyone. I am absolutely thrilled to invite you to Unawakened Earth, happening next Friday, October 9 at the UNT College of Music.

From 5:00-7:00 PM, Voertman Lobby and Specs Courtyard will be hosting an exhibition of environmental science student research and student organizations.

At 8:00 PM, the concert event will begin in Voertman Hall, opening with a panel discussion from student and faculty researchers in Biology, Environmental Philosophy, and Environmental Science, moderated by Dr. Ed Mager, Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Environmental Research Institute. The evening will culminate in the performance of Unawakened, a new work for wind ensemble I composed for the project.

Join us for an evening of conversation, research, music, and community as we explore our relationship with the natural world, and consider how we might listen more closely to our environment.

Event details and livestream link can be found in my bio.

We would love to see you there!

Last Monday, our chapter was excited to announce that we have met our goal of $3,500 to buy a golf cart for Wind Studies! We couldn’t be more overjoyed to finally present this as well as take this next step in our chapter’s growth! Additionally we’d like to congratulate all of our brothers that have performed in the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble this past week! #AEA 💙🤟

The Fall semester is in full swing, and we have a busy week ahead of us! Swipe to see what’s happening in UNT Percussion this week.

Master drummer and Latin jazz legend Ignacio Berroa will be on campus this Tuesday, September 22! He’ll present 2 sessions in the Jazz Lecture Series, as well as a drumset masterclass.

This Friday, September 25, Connor Kent will present a drumset masterclass for Percussion Departmental class! Kent’s “compelling groove” (Downbeat Magazine) has taken him all over the world, performing and teaching across the US, Canada, Central America, Europe, The Middle East, and Asia. His deep love and study of music keeps him a highly in-demand performer, educator, and recording artist in a variety of styles including pop, rock, country, jazz, world music, and much more.

Percussionists in Wind Studies have two concerts this week! The Wind Symphony plays tonight, Monday, September 21, and the Wind Ensemble plays on Thursday, September 24.

❗️Exciting News❗️

"Vincent's Sky" was selected as a finalist (1 of 3 finalists, out of 150 entries) for the renowned Sousa-ABA-Ostwald Composition Contest held by the American Bandmasters Association and John Philip Sousa Foundation.

This is a huge honor and I'm thrilled to be amongst the other finalists: @henryldorn, @pharlz, and the winner @zhoutiancomposer. Congrats to all!

Commissioned by a consortium of 25 ensembles from across the country, "Vincent's Sky" is a an extended work for choir and wind ensemble. This 17-minute journey explores artist Vincent van Gogh’s emotional world through the lens of three of his paintings, guided by his own words and those of Walt Whitman.

I’m very excited to be playing a lot of bass trombone this semester, in the Three O’Clock Lab Band with Professor Rich DeRosa, the Latin Jazz Lab Band with Professor Jose Aponte, the U-Tubes with Professor Nick Finzer, and the Wind Ensemble with Professor Kat Reed. While I am playing a lot of bass trombone this semester, I am still available for any performing and recording on small and large bore tenor trombone, bass trombone, and tuba. Let’s get to work!

Professor Eugene Corporon has been a beloved conductor and leader here at UNT for the past 37 years! In the Wind Symphony’s final concert last April, both former and current graduate students commissioned a piece in honor of him called “In Motion” by James Stephenson. Prof Corporon will be officially retiring August 31st! 🦅💚

This is the just last minute of the piece, which we wanted to highlight to show the fast passages from all the musicians!🎶💨

That’s a wrap on the 2026 UNT Conductors Collegium! I got to play some wonderful pieces alongside top notch musicians, and was honored to watch the man, the myth, the legend, Professor Eugene Corporon work his magic with the amazing conductors on his final project at the university. I am SO incredibly grateful for this experience and all the lovely people I met in the process!

University of North Texas’ 30th Annual Conductors Collegium was an experience to remember. The wealth of knowledge that is fostered here is something no amount of money could buy. The memories, experiences, and gratitude are something I’ll be looking back on as I continue on this journey. I’m infinitely proud to have been here and not anywhere else.

A special thanks to @untwindstudies for the opportunity to share music with you all. Thank you to Dr. Trachsel, Dr. Woody, and Professor Corporon for your golden nuggets that you shared on a daily basis, as well as your hospitality.

UNT Conducting Symposium 2026💚 What an honor to meet and learn alongside so many talented musicians and educators! I’m also feeling incredibly grateful that the whole 2026-27 Peabody wind conducting studio (all women btw!) could be there together!
