๐ŸŽ“ Alumnus Ashish Kumar P Appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณโžก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We are delighted to share that Ashish Kumar P., an alumnus of the Department of Communication, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad (MA Communication, 2011โ€“13), has been appointed a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Communications at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, USA. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ A first-generation university graduate from Hyderabad, Ashish is a documentary filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist. After his MA at UoH, he earned an MFA in Media Arts, Cinema and Television Arts from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

๐ŸŽฌ His MFA thesis film, In/Dignity, follows Ambedkar statues in India and the US to explore caste, memory, and the politics of visibility โ€” combining personal narrative, archive, field interviews, and experimental form.

๐ŸŽฅ Along the way, he has worked as a director, assistant director, and post-production editor across Indian and international media, collaborating with Google, NTFP-EP, ICRISAT, community radio, and Ambedkarite collectives.

๐Ÿ“š At Pitt-Bradford, he teaches video and sound production in the Division of Communication and the Arts, framing the classroom as a collaborative space where students ask not just how a story is told, but why and for whom.

๐Ÿ’ฌ In his note to the Department, Ashish wrote that the knowledge, guidance, and training he received during his MA at UoH were invaluable in shaping his artistic approach and academic career โ€” and he hopes to build student/faculty exchange and joint research with his alma mater. ๐Ÿค

Congratulations, Ashish! Your journey is an inspiration to every student walking through the corridors of S N School. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต From Hyderabad to Sendai โ€” a Research Scholar Apoorva Soni heads to Japan.

๐ŸŽ‰ We are delighted to share that Ms. Apoorva Soni, research scholar at the Department of Animal Biology, University of Hyderabad, has been selected for the prestigious JST LOTUS-ASPIRE Fellowship โ€” the Japan Science and Technology Agency's flagship India-Japan programme for young researchers.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Working under the supervision of Prof. Jagan M.R. Pongubala, Apoorva studies IRF4, a transcription factor that steers how B cells mature. Using functional genomics and computational approaches, she has shown that IRF4 controls B cell maturation through multiple regulatory mechanisms, including the epigenetic regulation of B-lineage-specific genes.

๐Ÿงฌ At Tohoku University, Sendai, she will join the laboratory of Prof. Kazuhiko Igarashi (Department of Biochemistry, Graduate School of Medicine) โ€” a group renowned for its work on BACH1 and BACH2 in B cell biology. There, she will use a newly developed IRF4-inducible model system and the latest gene-editing tools to uncover the gene regulatory networks underlying B cell development and activation. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ฌ In the words of Prof. Pongubala: "There is no greater reward for a teacher than witnessing students create opportunities for themselves and pursue their aspirations with confidence."

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations, Apoorva. We wish you every success in this exciting new chapter of your scientific journey! ๐ŸŒโœจ
