🏛️ Preserving the Poet's Legacy at Golden Threshold

On 7 September 2026, the University of Hyderabad hosted "Preserving the Poet's Legacy – Handing Over of Smt. Sarojini Naidu's Artefacts" at the Conference Hall, Golden Threshold, Nampally. Swipe 👉

🙏 Welcome Address: Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, UoH.

🎓 Prof. J. Anuradha, Vice-Chancellor (i/c), UoH, and Professor of Dance, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, recalled her student days at the Department of Dance when the School functioned from Golden Threshold. Preserving it had been a dream since then, she said – and this was the first step towards making the restored space active again.

📜 Ms. Sheela Reddy, Author and Trustee, Sarojini Naidu Trust, shared how she discovered Sarojini Naidu's letters and belongings in a building of the Osmania Hospital, and spoke of Golden Threshold as the poet's marital home, once visited by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

🤝 The Government of Telangana Order (Ref. No. 1040/Endts.II/A1/2026, dated 09-02-2026) transferring the artefacts to UoH was formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor.

📖 Also presented: a framed title page of Sarojini Naidu's The Golden Threshold, alongside the Will of her daughter, Smt. Padmaja Naidu, who bequeathed the premises to UoH in 1974 – the home from which the University began in 1975.

🇮🇳 Honouring heritage, championing Viksit Bharat.

The University of Hyderabad marked India's 80th Independence Day today. Celebrations opened with a full rendition of Vande Mataram, after which Prof. J. Anuradha, Vice-Chancellor (In-charge), hoisted the National Flag.

Freedom at UoH, she said, is the liberty to think critically, to innovate without boundaries, and to use world-class education as an instrument of nation-building. 🌱

A second milestone came with it. Our science schools began functioning at Gachibowli on 10 August 1977 — making this the 50th Independence Day celebrated on this very soil. Five decades of learning, research and nation-building, right here on this campus.

From the year in review:

🔬 177 active research projects worth over ₹182 crore · 52 granted patents · nearly 1,200 papers in 2025 and around 800 already in 2026

🏅 J.C. Bose Grants from ANRF to Prof. Rajadurai Chandrasekar and Prof. Naresh Babu V. Sepuri · Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships to Pooja Shukla and Anjana M. Nair · three from the Department of Dance honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar

🤝 Named Lead Knowledge Institution for the Government of Telangana, with INFORM launched as a Section 8 company for the UN SDGs

🚀 ASPIRE now spans 67,000+ sq. ft. — 140+ deep-tech start-ups, 30+ technologies commercialised, ₹500+ crore raised, 1,000+ jobs created

🏗️ IoE Phase-1 nearing completion: the IDRC, a 400-seater ladies' hostel, the MMTTC building and an HAL-funded auditorium now operational

📚 A Four-Year UG Programme launched in Chemistry, and CDOE now serving 5,000+ learners across 40 online courses

🎓 91.89% of Ph.D. seats filled · 378 full-time offers across 177 organisations · peak international offer of ₹30 LPA

🌏 43 new international scholars and an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Grant

💛 The UoH Endowment Fund launched, connecting 11,000+ alumni globally

The morning closed with campus school students performing patriotic songs and dance, and the National Anthem sung together. 🎶

On 13th of October, the department of dance, SN school had organised a talk by Dr. Rajyalaksmi Seth who hails from an illustrious family of artists and academicians. She took us through her journey right from her childhood days where she got initiated into Kuchipudi, mentored by her own sisters Dr. Uma Rama Rao and Smt. Sumathy Kaushal. She talked about the training they received from the doyens of the Kuchipudi form and how it influenced her approach towards her academic and artistic pursuits.

She started as an associate teacher alongside her sister, Smt. Sumathy Kaushal, and later took up part-time teaching in the College of Home Sciences. She was one of the first women to have forayed into Nattuvangam for Kuchipudi as a practitioner. She established her dance institute, Muvva Academy, in Bombay, teaching and choreographing for several students and productions.

Her significant contributions in the field of research include her doctoral thesis in sociology titled The Changing Contours of Kuchipudi Dance, her publication on the compilation of Shabdams, Tagore Fellowship on the documentation of dance notations, and many more.

The big takeaway point was the constant zeal and the interest with which she pursued the art form in all its aspects, from teaching, performing, and choreographing to the enquiry of research as part of her life's mission and pursuit.

It was an inspiring lecture for all the students of dance with a thought to keep enquiring to further one's knowledge . by @uohyd
