The heat season is upon us, and the Homewood Garden tenants are braced for another uncertain winter of spotty heat and no hot water, in our freezing cold apartments, just like last year. We’ve been striking for ELEVEN months, and this glaring issue of an old and leaky boiler is still unaddressed. We’ve made arrangements as a community to make sure all our smoke alarms have fresh batteries, because we’re worried our space heaters and ovens are a fire hazard. This is simply unacceptable. We need a new boiler, and all the other repairs we’ve listed in our demands, addressed before the winter gets truly underway! TENANTS UNITED WILL NEVER BE DIVIDED ✊🏽. . . . . . . Our management has tried scare tactics on individual tenants, and appeasing some union leaders with conciliatory repairs. But we stand firm in our demands as a united front. Repairs must be conducted on all outstanding issues, especially those for older and longer-term tenants that have lived in these buildings and suffered their disrepair for decades. . Tenants united will never be divided! ✊🏽 . . . . . . [rent strike, tenant organizing, tenant union, tenants rights, brooklyn tenants, flatbush tenant association, nyc, tenant power, no rent]

And management has only met with us formally as a union ONCE. (But tried to intimidate many of us individually 🫠). . Tenants united will never be divided! ✊🏽 . . . . . . . . . [rent strike, tenant union, tenant organizing, tenant rights, flatbush tenants association, brooklyn, nyc, flatbush]

Our earlier post today with the abysmal photos of our tenants’ living conditions said more than any caption ever could. . No repairs? No rent. ✊🏽 . . . . . [rent strike, tenant union, tenant organizing, flatbush tenants, brooklyn, nyc]

Believe it or not, these photos are all from DIFFERENT apartments, and that’s just the folks that had the patience to document this disrepair. . After months of ignoring our letters and demands, management finally responded to us after a letter of support by our local Community Board, claiming they are repairing “every single complaint they receive”, yet this is the condition after multiple calls to 311 and notifications to management. . No repairs, no rent! ✊🏽 . . . . . [tenant union, tenant organizing, rent strike, flatbush tenant coalition, brooklyn tenants, nyc, tenants united]

[Swipe] You may have heard of the $87.5 million lawsuit against Riverside Abstract. You haven't heard what happened to Yvonne Williams. ➡️ Someone filed a change to her corporation's official records with the NY Department of State — rerouting her legal mail to an address in New Jersey. She never authorized it. The State never verified who submitted it. A court looked at the altered record and treated it as valid. She brought it to the DA. Nothing. Fraud, laundered into paperwork — and every office that could have stopped it looked away. Check your Secretary of State records today. If something changed without your knowledge, act immediately.
