It can be difficult to stay positive in today’s world.

Not only do we all have an inner critic trying to send negative self-talk our way, but with 24-hour news coming at us, social media and all the polarization and fear and anger in the world, it is so easy to get pulled into energy that doesn’t serve us or uplift us.

It’s no wonder that so many of us struggle with mental health, anxiety and depression.

But the good news is that we get a choice about what we consume, how we spend our time and who we surround ourselves with…and these small choices can have a big impact on our mental health.

When @ionebutler was struggling with depression, she went on a personal journey of trying to discover what was causing her depression and what she could do to pull herself out of it.

She found that being more mindful about the content she consumed was HUGE and took intentional steps to fill her mind with more positive, uplifting things…which she now shares with the world at www.upliftingcontent.com! @upliftingcontent

Ione also found that taking small, positive actions could keep her from falling into depression. Things like:

Teach kids that they’re strong. Especially girls.

When my daughters asked to deadlift my barbell (loaded up to 415 lbs), my heart leaped.

They were bummed they couldn’t lift Daddy’s bar, but we found an alternative.

I have no idea if they’ll remember this later. But I really hope they do.

I hope it makes them feel strong. I hope it makes them feel like they belong in the gym.

I hope it encourages them to pick up a barbell and show the boys what’s up.

Because you can’t put a price on what that strength and confidence does for you.

The ripples it causes outside the gym. How it makes you see yourself and the world.

There are enough barriers that keep people from feeling strong, especially girls and women.

Let’s stop build those and start breaking them down instead.

That’s what my girls and I will be doing, and I hope you’ll join us.
