When my hands weren’t helpful on the main bench of Ruth Tamura’s @corningmuseum residency, I was adding to our collection of GEN 二 marbles, graced with commemorative chips for every locale we’ve been in.

But this residency called for a new marble: I dreamed up a material caricature of this whole collaboration by blowing a marble that holds the OG #475 Johns-Manville marbles. These are the marbles that were melted in studio glass furnaces circa 1969, and perhaps were a seed for Ruth’s thesis work. (Originally formulated for fiberglass production, it was a delight to stumble across them in Maya Lin’s Where the Rivers Meet installation, as well.)

I also made an entire marble out of the #475, but left before it came out of the annealer and it hasn’t shipped out yet, so: probably more to come of this endeavor. Our pursuits chasing “breakage” during this residency were somewhat hampered by the perfectly blowing-engineered Glasma we were working with. Ruth very badly wanted @nikodimitrijevic to *feel* the #475. I have a lot of thoughts around this sentiment—the transference of what it is to feel the glass. But for now I’ll just say of my experience of the #475: it would deform for you, but wouldn’t flow on its own.

Very, very special thanks to Audrey Handler @audhandler for gifting me these marbles for this purpose. Both Audrey and Ruth were at “GAS 1.” It was an honor to make this small, humble new linkage between these two.

Sabbatical has given me just enough breathing room to zoom out and understand the scale of some of my projects. I’ve been collaborating with Ruth Tamura for 3.5 years now. Our residency at @corningmuseum felt like a real turning point. The rightful order of the world was reinstated: this was Ruth’s residency and I was her +1; not the other way around.

This collaboration derives potency through the institutions that have been down to re-cast history with us. Thank you @crafting_the_future and @pilchuckglassschool for accepting that first Better Together residency proposal to bring Ruth back to campus for the first time in 53 years to recreate her graduate thesis work at the institution she co-founded. (And y’all better get on those applications for 2027 due soon!) Thank you @mellgoodmanirl for curating this work into the cosmically aligned @centerforcraft Archives in Practice exhibition. Thank you @nomadic_elf and @caneedell at @chryslermuseum for letting me convert a solo invitation into a party for Ruth to perform her work for the first time since 1969 with the help of the fab Chrysler studio assistants and the musical genius of @avoidancepolicy. And thank you to @landis.tami and @corningmuseum team for grounding Ruth’s story, front and center in the Tough Stuff exhibition. I truly could not have imagined this in 2023.

Ruth started the residency by challenging @nikodimitrijevic to replicate her cracked-and-stitched-back-together piece in the show. This grew into working with thick fat shards all week, piercing vessels in various configurations.

Ruth picked up right where she left off. It is wild to bear witness to someone stepping back into their identity as an artist in full, picking up a thread they set down in the early 70s, with their embodied consciousness of the material wholly present.

A huge thank you to the entire @corningmuseum amphitheater hotshop team: @nikodimitrijevic @hatiekubba @beahmbeyond @glasscat13 @htegs @uppercut_glass. Watching Ruth channel her energy thru @nikodimitrijevic was a really special kind of magic, and I was personally so grateful to finally get to work with Niko after literal decades of hearing about him. What a gem.

Just stacking up Mondays over here! Another solid one. loved how everything came together tonight, as I just sat back and watched it play out, some stretched, some right in the ring to shadow boxing, others jumped rope, others wrapped hands and caught up! Any of the above a great choice and just loved watching it unfold on peoples own accord..

Then when time to work, WE WORKED!!

- Solid family/group stretch
- followed by a two group warm up

Into stations, which you’re seeing here.

We split the ring into two; one half with me working mitts (second video see @kayonflint3) learning, improving, strong foundation which we’re taking to the next level! Then the other half coach @uppercut_glass giving instant feedback in drill sparring, where I gave each athlete a task to focus on, whether it was spacing, balance, countering, foot placement. Live instant tangible feedback!

From there out of the ring onto the turf for a round of Calisthenics, and following that 5 rounds of open rounds bag work! 😤 😅✊🏻💪🏻

Finishing with of course Coach @uppercut_glass 5 min core work!!

Few stayed after for sparring, some to talk & connect, hang! My kind of Monday, and here for many many more to come!!

Honored to give maestro Davide Salvadore a hand for his demo at GAS 2026 for his collaboration with @luciobubacco . I’ve learned so much from this man over the years!

TLDR: GAS was good.

Obviously we had a good time at GAS. It was incredible to discover that all of the avatars on the internet that I’ve become friends with over the years are real people. Didn’t nearly get as many pics as I’d like to have had because I was too busy talking and talking and talking.

I think on any other day, the revelation that people like Preston, Martin, Davide, Caroline, and many many others use my tools would be enough to fill the cup - but I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of enthusiasm and support coming from all around the glass community - and hearing that mine are your first set of jacks is quite an honor.

Thanks to everyone who bought tools and for all the good conversation. Huge thanks to @cannedheat for splitting their booth with me and making that possible - those guys absolutely rock and they know how to party.

Thanks to Alessia for not only helping with the tools but also doing all of the drawing for our catalog and organizing the merch, she worked very hard to make sure that stuff was nice and ready on time. She also stitched all of those jack sheaths. We had like a ton of merch, if you didn’t notice. That’s not all but I’m running out of characters. Probably see you at Boda.
