Pesticides are Bayer’s biggest business. Cancer drugs are their second.

They’ve told investors they want ten billion dollars a year in cancer drug sales by 2030. Same company that makes the weedkiller.

We beat that bill in Missouri three years running. In June the Supreme Court gave them what our legislature wouldn’t.

Family farmers aren’t the problem. The companies hiding behind the red barn are.

This won’t bring down grocery prices. This won’t change policies that disadvantage small farms. Even those eligible for assistance may find it is not enough to avoid bankruptcy.

This is not farm policy. This is a bribe paid by $8 billion of taxpayer money hoping to buy the rural vote.

In 2020, Cargill paid its owners $1.13 billion in dividends. Last year, it was nearly $1.5 billion. This is a company that has a dozen billionaires among its shareholders. When you’re in the grocery store, it may seem like there are endless choices, but the money from almost every purchase goes to the same few corporations.

In a time where people are struggling to afford food and small farmers are facing crushing debt, there are middlemen making obscene amounts of wealth. IDs 1-3: Text reads, “In 2020, the Cargill family made $1,130,000,000 in dividends. That’s 44,000x what the average American family farm made that year. Today, they dominate the global food supply chain.” “The grocery store sells us 100 versions of “choice”. Whole time, the same handful of corporations own the brands, process the food & then supply the stores & restaurants. This is what a monopoly looks like.” “The red barn on the label is branding. The billionaires behind it are the real story."

Just because it’s worth mentioning: Our farm is no different when it comes to the hard work, dedication, and quality food we produce. What is different is the history and the barriers that Black farmers have faced when it comes to land ownership, funding, and opportunities.

Being proud to be a Black-owned farm doesn’t mean we’re better than anyone else. It means we’re proud to be part of a community that has historically been underrepresented in agriculture. We celebrate ALL farmers, and sharing our story doesn’t take anything away from theirs.

Anyone else spending more on groceries for lower quality and less healthy food? 🫠

You’re trying to stretch the budget, feed yourself well, and now you have to check if what’s in your fridge got recalled.

So I asked Maxwell Frost: is our food too expensive or too corporate?

The answer? It is too expensive because it is too corporate.

When a handful of companies control everything from seed to fork, it’s time to start asking questions and pushing for change. Because being able to afford dinner AND feel good about eating it shouldn’t be asking too much.

Send this to the friend whose grocery hauls have them thinking something has to change 🛒

Who is teaching kids to farm? Share agricultural education success stories from your area in the comments section. Young people who learn agriculture skills are prepared for much more. I feel lucky I was able to teach agriculture classes at @newrootsschool (New Roots Charter School) in Ithaca, New York.

For those who are new here, I’m Vanessa, a proud Black woman farmer and owner of Willowbrook Farms in Cassopolis, Michigan.

We’re a small family-owned farm raising pasture-raised meats and working hard to bring families closer to their food.

Our farm is for EVERYONE, and everyone is welcome at our table! ❤️

Thank you for supporting our little farm and helping us grow! 🌱🐓🐖#willowbrookfarms #sustainablefarming #pastureraised #blackfarmers #southwestmichigan

Jenna Moore knew that small and midsize farmers across the state of Oklahoma needed more support. They needed access to markets and could use a hand with distribution.

That’s why she and a friend started the OKC Food Hub, a nonprofit organization that aggregates and distributes locally-sourced food. The Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program, administered by the USDA, was instrumental in getting the food hub going.

Moore is hopeful the program will return in some capacity, after it was terminated by the Trump Administration, because she has seen the “tidal wave” of economic impact it had, particularly in rural communities.

During @farmaid weekend, @uprootcenter hosted a special farm dinner for an amazing group of content creators. I had the privilege of planning the event, scouting the perfect location, and coordinating all the food sourcing to make it happen.

If you want to know what a true farm-to-table revolution looks like, you just need to pull up a chair.

I had the absolute honor of working directly with Brittany and Derrick at @cartwrightfamilyfarms to host us, and the phenomenal Mary Cook at @untamedchefva to bring this vision to life. Let me tell you, this was a dream team to create with.

We spent the evening walking the pastures, hanging out with the pigs, and learning exactly how and why Cartwright farms the way they do. After the tour, the creators sat down to an insanely good meal crafted by Mary, featuring seriously amazing local produce from @4pfoods alongside incredible pasture-raised proteins provided by both @cartwrightfamilyfarms and @whatthefarmva

Honestly, the best part was the community around the table. Having the crew from @coastalcattle Kelly from @whatthefarmva there to share their lived experiences as local farmers directly with the creators reminded me exactly why we do this work. Real food is about real people.

Support your local farmers, folks. #farmtotable #shoplocal #onthefarm
