Big Ag has created a system that is nearly impossible to opt out of no matter how hard you try. This dynamic boosts corporate profits while your family is forced to pay more and more for worse and less healthy food.

@uprootcenter is here to help you get informed and hold decision-makers accountable. But in the meantime, here are a few things you can do to keep your hard earned money out of the hands of Big Ag 🙌🏽💚 #bigag #farming by @uprootcenter

As a parent, I have several questions about who’s influencing what ends up on our kids’ lunch trays. A new report examined over 10,000 school lunch entrées, and the findings are worth a closer look.. Full report linked in the comments.

This isn’t an attack on meat and it isn’t about blaming parents or cafeteria workers. It’s about what corporations are allowed to turn food into when federal policy prioritizes low cost and convenience over quality.

According to Friends of the Earth’s “Beyond the Nugget” report, some school products like corn dogs use mechanically separated chicken, a paste made by using high pressure to separate remaining muscle from bones.

Why are products like these so common? Schools receive only about $4.70 for each free lunch, and that money must also help cover labor, equipment and other operating costs. Meanwhile, approximately 40% of USDA commodity entitlement dollars go to companies that process ingredients into ready-to-serve products like nuggets and pizza.

Cafeteria workers are doing the best they can inside a system designed to make ultra-processed products the affordable option.

The problem isn’t the lunch lady. It’s corporate power, inadequate funding and outdated federal policy. Read the full report: https://foe.org/beyond-the-nugget Share this with someone whose child eats school meals.

Our children deserve better.

Parents shouldn’t have to become pesticide experts just to understand what’s being used in the food system.
ㅤ
Paraquat is still registered for agricultural use in the U.S., even though it’s highly toxic and banned in many other countries.
ㅤ
And when companies like Bayer and industry groups like the Modern Ag Alliance have far more money and access to influence pesticide policy than the average family, it’s fair to ask whose interests are shaping the rules.
ㅤ
If you’re ready to demand a food system that puts families ahead of corporate influence, comment PLEDGE and we’ll send you the link.

What happens when we find common ground with people we never expected to agree with? 🌱

At @farmaid 2026, New Roots Institute’s Head of Pathways, Becca Rogers @bexrogers, had conversations that challenged assumptions and reinforced something central to the organization’s mission: changing our food system will take a broad coalition of people willing to work together.

Even among people working within industrial animal agriculture, there’s recognition that our current food system needs significant change.

We may not agree on every issue or approach, but challenging corporate control, supporting farmers, and building a food system that’s better for people, animals, and the planet requires finding where our goals overlap.

Because ending factory farming isn’t something any one organization, community, or movement can accomplish alone. taken in Virginia Beach, Virginia by @uprootcenter

Bayer’s lawyers have been busy.
ㅤ
The Supreme Court ruled 7–2 for Monsanto, blocking a man’s state-law claim that Roundup should have carried a cancer warning.
ㅤ
Bayer, which bought Monsanto, has also proposed a settlement of up to $7.25 billion despite disputing any allegations of harm.
ㅤ
That ruling narrowed one route for people trying to hold the company accountable.
ㅤ
Big Ag comes with a legal department. Holding it accountable shouldn’t take a lifetime.
Comment PLEDGE to stand up to Big Ag.

Please take a moment to sign the petition in my bio to stop funding the corporate food cartel. (Link in bio!!!)

In 2022, Neil Young challenged concert venues over the factory-farmed food they were serving. But the bigger story is about who controls our food supply.

From concert venues to school cafeterias, food choices are often shaped by corporate purchasing contracts long before anything reaches our plates.

So who’s making those decisions? And how do we create more opportunities for local farmers? Because food sovereignty is also about having a say in the systems that feed us.

The point isn’t that Bayer makes a lot of products.
The point is how much power one corporation can hold across industries — and what happens when that power extends beyond selling a product into shaping the rules around accountability.
ㅤ
That’s the part of Big Ag we want people to see.
Not just the farm.
Not just the chemical.
Not just the grocery shelf.
ㅤ
Follow the corporation. Follow the money. Follow the power.
ㅤ
And if you’re tired of Big Ag hiding behind the image of the family farmer while corporations hold the real power, take the pledge to help us shatter the Red Barn Illusion.
