“I don’t do what’s trending—I do what’s HEALTHY.” 💅🏽🧠

I grew up in the generation where a comb and a lil’ Blue Magic had us just fine 😂… but somewhere along the way, healthy hair care got replaced with using more and more product.

And as a stylist, one thing I want y’all to pay attention to is PRODUCT BUILDUP. 👀

A lot of today’s braiding products are formulated to give us that super-sleek, laid finish—but depending on the ingredients, how much is used, and how long it stays on the scalp, that buildup can become a problem.

And baby… more product does NOT automatically mean a better protective style. 🗣️

Remember when everybody started getting away from heavy grease because we wanted our scalps to “breathe”? So why are we now coating the scalp in layers of styling product just because the finished braid looks good on camera? 🤔

That’s why I teach healthy hair BEFORE trendy hair.

Before you follow every new hair trend:
✨ Learn what’s actually in the products you’re using.
✨ Pay attention to how YOUR scalp responds.
✨ Keep your scalp properly cleansed.
✨ And remember—a protective style should actually PROTECT the hair underneath it.

Sometimes the newest technique isn’t the healthiest technique.

And sometimes… if it ain’t broke, you don’t have to fix it. 💋

📌 Save this for your next protective style & send it to somebody who stays piling gel on their scalp 😂

Stylists + clients: have y’all noticed more scalp buildup since braiding gels became so popular? 👇🏽

It’s clear nobody cares what I learned in cosmetology school,

When are you taking appointments for braids again? Is my most asked question

Before you make the drastic decision to color your natural hair, I highly suggest clients to try temporary options because it allows you to find the best color based on your skin tones, facial features and everyday lifestyles, Consult with your stylist abt trying a temporary option like a pronto or sew-in…

A life well lived deserves to be beautifully honored.

On April 8, we gathered to celebrate the legacy, laughter, and love of Officer Marcellus K. Jones. Every detail of this Celebration of Life was curated to reflect his vibrant spirit, his musical soul, and the way he made everyone feel like family.

With heartfelt gratitude, we thank his sister Carla @upscale_j_85 for entrusting The Event Barr LLC @theeventbarr with the planning and design of such a meaningful tribute.

To The Overlook Venue @overlookvenuecle , thank you for providing a beautiful, accommodating space that held the energy of remembrance and joy.

To our incredible vendor team:

• @alloccasions216 — for the stunning pipe and drape, marquee letters, custom badges, stanchions, carpet, bar sign, and more.

• @officiallashonscatering_ — for a flavorful spread and a passionate, attentive staff.

• @positiveimages360 — for capturing the love through every smile, hug, and shared memory.

• @dj_magnificent — for creating a soundtrack that reminded us this was a celebration.

• @femmeaissancenoire — for your behind-the-scenes magic in capturing the moments we’ll revisit for years to come.

It was our honor to produce this moment of reflection, reverence, and joy.

As Officer Jones would say—
“Love is a verb.”

I personally think everybody should be able to do a basic makeup application for special occasions but to each their own!!!

As for me that’s what I’m doing and being able to perform beauty services on myself is definitely a flex but when my schedule is fully booked out personal services start to get pushed further and further apart, so when I get the chance baby I’m either booking an appointment with my MUA friends or I’m doing it myself!!!

I became a YouTube University MUA graduate because I love everything abt hair and beauty and I love how it brings the entire look together but since I’ve been in school, my schedule has now allowed me to have more self-care time with my self and I also get to be more creative with my hair and makeup now a days!!!

Stay tuned more fun looks to come! I’m out of my corporate girl phase so don’t expect none of that!!!
