Browns, brookies, and rainbows — the trifecta. But honestly, this trip meant a little more to me than just checking three species off the list.

Looking back at where I was a year ago, how much time I’ve spent on the water, the miles walked, the fish that humbled me, the flies that didn’t work, and all the little lessons learned along the way… it’s hard not to feel proud of how far I’ve come. A year ago, I was just trying to figure it all out. Now, I find myself reading water a little differently, understanding these fish a little better, and appreciating the little things that used to go right over my head.

And that’s what makes this whole thing so special. It’s not always about the biggest fish or the perfect picture. Sometimes it’s standing in a quiet stretch of water, surrounded by the mountains, watching October just begin to paint the trees, and realizing that all those hours have added up to something.

There’s still so much to learn, so much water to explore, and so many mornings like this waiting out there. But for the first time in a while, I took a step back and realized just how much I’ve grown.

A year of learning, getting lost, making mistakes, and falling a little deeper in love with this whole thing. And if this is only the beginning, I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

Scrolling through old photos has me counting down the days. Last year’s browns and this year’s chrome brought some unforgettable moments, but nothing beats the feeling of knowing the run is right around the corner. 🎣🍂

Spent the evening mousing with @upstateflyfishing and @fingerlakesangling , and staying out late paid off in a big way. I shattered my inland brown trout personal best with this 24.5-inch wild brown. The fish put on an unreal show, launching out of the water multiple times and testing every bit of my 5-weight. I was definitely undergunned, but after an incredible fight, Mike came through with a clutch net job to seal the deal.
Hands down one of the most unforgettable fish I’ve ever caught. #flyfishingnation #flyfishinglife #mousingfortrout #catchandrealease

Some places have a way of slowing everything down. Long hikes, quiet streams, campfires, and memories that’ll last a lifetime. Thanks for another unforgettable trip, Catskills. See you again soon.

Backpacking & Bluelining. 4 days. 4 legendary rivers. Every fish on a dry fly.

Beaverkill. Delaware (East) (West). Neversink.

6 rainbows, 1 brown, thunderstorms at night, 90° days, and views that remind you why you come to the Catskills. 🎣🌲

Took a trip up to Penns Creek with the boys and it delivered in every way—unreal fish, unreal views, and one of those days you just don’t forget.

Put a gorgeous wild brown in the net on a gold/yellow Kauffman-style nymph tied by the locals at Penns Creek Angler Fly Shop… and it got absolutely crushed.

See you again soon Penn 🤝

First smallie of the year on the fly rod ✔️🔥

Drifting a prince nymph with a fake bead above it… then boom — tight line and this guy starts peeling drag like he’s got somewhere to be 😤🎣

Came up pinned perfectly in the corner of the mouth, couldn’t have drawn it up any better.

Unreal night with the boys and even better seeing the smallmouth starting to fire up. Spring is HERE 🙌

More to come… stay tuned.
