The other day @upswingdance once again let me swing by and practice a bit of off-camera flash photography on @kiransatellite with makeup by @sambehr2001. Uh, let’s just say those youtube tutorials make shooting with flash look way easier than it actually is.

If any of you out there saw my past couple of @upswingdance rehearsal photos and thought, “I don’t know why you say you suck as a photographer, those photos of the dancers were pretty good!”, I feel I need to point out that if you have an interesting-looking subject, such as @dorian_aerial here making her performance look flowing and effortless, the skill of the photographer is almost meaningless in the final result. Me capturing a shot like this one is, like, 95% because of the dancer, and 5% because I was able to focus before pressing the shutter button.

Another random shot I took while testing out a new lens at the @upswingdance rehearsal, this time of the amazing @kc_hyperbland on her mini hoop apparatus as a part of a duet. I’d write something witty and self deprecating, except I’m rather busy watching Derry Girls.
