POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I had a great time yesterday offering massage sessions for @urwellbeing_ for employees at Exchange Quay. Just offering that half an hour for people to relax in their busy days, to take a breather and to reset is so important. We sometimes don't notice how much tension we are holding until we rest on the table.

Some of the lovely feedback clients said yesterday whilst on the table which stayed with me:

"I didn't realise how much stress I was carrying there"

"I've never had a massage at work before, this is amazing"

"I am in heaven"

"My day is going to be so much better now"

"That's the most relaxing massage I've ever had"

Hearing these reflections really shows why wellness days like this are so important to employees. Thank you to Luke at UR Wellbeing and to the wonderful clients who trusted me yesterday💚

A moment for the moments, because there’s been a few.

I’ve been busy stacking them and honestly, how it should be.

#weeklyrecap #triathlonlife #summerloving #spud #brickbybrick

Training with direction, purpose and seeing progress.
Brick by brick baby.

Mates dates ❤️ when potatoes are involved.

Gadgets that make life easier / satisfying AF.

Goooooood eating (especially when I’m not cooking).

Surviving and not always thriving.

Lil’ pig.

Levels to this Goretex game (still manifesting summer with shorts)

Feeling strong and celebrating it. Cos it’s not something I’ve felt often with endurance sport and so we have to shot and celebrate when I do!

🎨

My people, doing their thing.

Running in the sun = the only way to convince myself it’s enjoyable?

Fashion. Icon. Model. Serving.

Cereal = 🐐 and I won’t hear anything less than.

Touch grass.

I’m a savoury not sweet gal and even my sweat agrees

New gym lighting is 🧑‍🍳💋

Not many I’ll share food with, but A & J Meade I’ll make an exception.

Venturing out in other than Lycra.

Golden hour.

Everybody knows someone like this…

Maybe you’re that person.

You can always count on us to ⬇️

1) have our gym kit ready and raring to go for any session, any time, any place. HMU!

2) to join you on that run you’ve been avoiding because it’s a lillllllll” bit rainy outside. Doesn’t matter, the cold never bothered us anyway.

3) have a spare hair tie, scrunchie, pair of socks, water bottle, emergency gel lurking. We got you boo.

4) down to double up on the world’s grimmest looking partner session. We might even offer to do all the burpees, because we are a good person and best kind of friend.

5) need someone to drag you to the gym? Or persuade you to sign up to that class? Don’t worry mate, I’ll probs be there anyway!

We just love it.

Just don’t ask me to share my food, because honestly, that’s too far xoxoxo

I think one of the harder things to accept sometimes is that just because you love something, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you right now.

Just before I tore my pec, I’d already kind of made the decision that I needed a proper break from racing and really hard training for a while.

Not because I don’t love it. I absolutely do.

If my body let me, I’d probably race all the time 😂

I love competing, having something to train towards, prepping with people, travelling to events and all the stories that come from it. I genuinely love all that. Especially because I want to inspire other Type 1s and show them they can do this stuff, and that their disease doesn’t define them!

But for a while now, I’ve felt like my body has been telling me something needed to change.

Over the last few years I’ve already reduced the intensity, rested more, focused more on recovery, fuelled better and generally tried to be smarter with how I train.

But I still haven’t felt like my body has been recovering or handling everything in the way I want it to. Managing Type 1 diabetes alongside years of hard training obviously adds another layer to figuring all of this out as well.

Then my pec went.

And to be honest, it just solidified what I was already thinking.

So I’ve basically given myself the best part of a year away from competing.

I’d love to come back in April. I still want to race, be fast and do well.

But if April comes around and my body isn’t ready, I’m not racing.

My health comes first.

One thing that’s always served me well is my ability to find a way. If something goes wrong, I adapt and move forwards.

But I think what I’m learning now is that adapting doesn’t always mean finding another way to keep pushing.

Sometimes it means being willing to stop, let go for a bit and accept that what you want to do might not be what you need to do right now.

Hopefully I figure out a way to train hard, race, manage my diabetes well and keep my body healthy enough to be doing all of this for decades.

That’s the goal.

But if the route has to change, I’ll adapt to that too.

Sometimes stepping away is part of moving forwards.

We built this…together…day by day

This is our Monday morning 7:45am @lifeatajbell

If you want to change people’s habits, sometimes the best place to start isn’t with the individual. It’s with the group around them.

One of the most powerful things we see within workplace wellbeing isn’t necessarily the workout, the class or even the programme itself.

It’s what happens when a group of people start doing it together.

Suddenly, training before work becomes normal.

Going to a class with a colleague becomes normal.

Turning up tired, struggling through a session, having a laugh and not being at your best becomes normal too.

And I think that’s important.

Because you’re seeing a different side of the people you work with every day.

Not their job title. Not the person presenting in a meeting. Not the polished version of themselves.

Just people.

Over time, that creates something much bigger than exercise.

It creates belonging.

People encourage each other. New people see a group they want to be part of. Healthy behaviours become part of the culture rather than something being pushed onto employees by an organisation.

And those relationships don’t disappear when everyone walks back into the office.

The person you’ve struggled through a session with, encouraged, competed with or laughed with is now the person you’re sitting next to in a meeting.

Strong workplace communities create stronger human relationships. And stronger human relationships create better teams.

That’s why, for me, one of the biggest measures of a successful workplace wellbeing programme isn’t simply how many sessions you deliver.

It’s whether you’ve created a culture that people genuinely want to be part of.

MISOGI.

Louis’ new favourite word, and something I think is worth speaking about.

The concept:

What is the one big challenge you’re taking on that scares you slightly, tests who you are and creates a lasting memory?

Here we are, almost exactly one year apart, completing another Misogi.

The first image is me and Louis at the top of Mount Fuji after spending the past three weeks travelling around Japan.

The second is me, Louis and Dan at the end of the Gower Peninsula 100km Ultra last year.

Two things that, when I first developed Type 1 Diabetes in October 2019, I never thought I’d be able to do.

But here we are.

Living a life filled with Misogi moments and proving to ourselves, and hopefully others, that you are capable of things far beyond your perceived limitations.

Whether you’re climbing Mount Fuji or running 100km, things simply don’t always go to plan.

Especially as a Type 1 Diabetic.

But it’s not about everything working perfectly. It’s about continuing to move forwards, adapting and finding a way, no matter what problems you face.

As I said on my Instagram story yesterday, you can’t take anything in life with you.

Experience as much of it as you can.

Whether you believe you can do it or not doesn’t really matter. Just doing it does.

Big love to everyone trying to live their life to the fullest.

I know I’ve got plenty more Misogi moments to come.

Have a think about yours!

P.s. special shoutout to all the amazing people around me like Louis & Dan who push their limits and encourage others to do the same ❤️.

A year ago, Louis and I sat down to record an episode before taking on a 100km ultra.

At the time, we spoke about why we were doing it, Louis starting to build Elevate, and how I was preparing to manage the challenge with Type 1 diabetes.

A lot has changed since then.

We completed the ultra. Louis has gone all-in on Elevate. We’ve both dealt with injuries that forced us to slow down, reflect and change direction. I’ve made some of the biggest improvements I’ve ever made with my diabetes, while also having some difficult realisations about my health, training and what I want to prioritise going forward.

And now, one year later, we’ve recorded the follow-up from Okinawa, Japan, while stuck inside during a typhoon.

This episode is us two catch-up about fitness, business, injuries, friendship, Type 1 diabetes, travel and just how much has changed in a year.

We chat some absolute rubbish but trust me, we also talk plenty of sense too!

The Purpose Project — Episode 9: One Year Later is out now.

Watch the full episode on YouTube, or listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Search The Purpose Project, or use the link in my bio.

Let us know if you tune in 💪😁!

Trust me, it isn’t the all or nothing people.

Because these people follow the trends, go ALL IN, can’t sustain it, don’t plan for bumps along the way and haven’t managed their expectations.

These people find themselves on a hamster wheel 🐹 never satisfied and always back at square one.

The people who succeed within their training are those who are more resilient. They account for, accept and then are able to respond after….
• missed sessions
• busy schedules
• last minute disruption to routine
- fatigue/load management

They are able to adjust, instead of quitting and sacking something off totally. Which builds resilience, self awareness and momentum. The people who are most successful, reduce the friction where they can. But adapting when they can’t.

They know it isn’t motivation alone that gets them through. And their entire worth isn’t tied up in the success of a single session.

It’s the people who can bounce back and not let a bad lift, impact the rest of their day.

Or let an off day, become an off week.

One missed week, become a month away from training.

Sessions get done (even if not perfectly or 100%). On average, boxes get mostly ticked. The effort is there. And the self trust builds, as you learn you can do hard things and show up for yourself even when you don’t feel like it or necessarily want to.
That small mental win, amounts over time.

Consistency isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about training smarter. Knowing what the best session or decision is in the moment.

Acknowledging that sometimes, that might involve being honest with yourself and making a choice that you didn’t necessarily want to. Knowing that it’s what you need at the time, but also will be grateful for having done later down the line.

Because even on days where you feel sh*t and motivation is out the window, being able to hand on heart say you acted inline with your values. That you know you’re working towards your goals and playing the longterm longevity game. Or that you are improving and tracking upwards in general….

That’s inspiration in itself 🤝👌🏼
