POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hard to believe it’s already been a week since Trojans made it official at the investiture of Beong-Soo Kim as USC’s 13th president! SDA students made sure 13 was a lucky number for the university we all love by performing beautifully at both the investiture ceremony (MT BFA freshman Samia Posada was an absolute pro singing the National Anthem with the Trojan Marching Band) and at the Trojan Family Celebration that followed (MT BFA junior Lydia Berckley and MT BA senior Keira Weiss reprised their roles from last spring’s Legally Blonde for an awesome Ellle-Vivian duet). If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like from the my seat onstage at these ceremonies, check out slide 3. And how cool is our new leader?? ✌️♥️ @uscsda

You (and your friends and family) are invited to the Harman Academy’s Trojan Family Weekend edition of Polymathic Pizza!

FIGURES OF SPEECH

with Professor of Linguistics Khalil Iskarous

Thursday, October 29 | 5:00 pm to 6:30pm
[note special day]
Harman Academy for Polymathic Study,
Doheny Memorial Library, Room 241

To rsvp, fill out the Google Form in our bio!

With the Harman Academy celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, we turn to the concept of figuring as a framework for renewed inquiry. The term simultaneously invokes mathematics, scientific representation, artistic practice, embodiment, and cognition. To figure is both to represent and to understand; it is an act of creation, interpretation, analysis and imagination. Continuing along these lines of inquiry, we invite you to join Professor of Linguistics Khalil Iskarous in conversation and explore myriad figures of speech ~ expressing, communicating, connecting ~ as a complex, polymathic enterprise.

⏰ 5-7pm
📍 USC Library for International and Public Affairs

📣The Future Archive event showcases original zines and videos created by USC undergraduates and Los Angeles high school students through the Bunker Hill Refrain Zine Academy. Drawing on archival research, art, and storytelling, students recover the lives and histories of Bunker Hill before urban renewal transformed the neighborhood. Join student zinesters, former Bunker Hill residents, and community members to explore the work and consider how young people can help shape the historical record. Presented in partnership with USC Libraries and the Los Angeles Public Library, with support from USC Arts in Action.
