Colorado Bean Week might be wrapping up tomorrow, but I had to get in on it. 🌱

Colorado may not be known for growing soybeans, but we grow a whole lot of other beans. Pinto beans are a big part of Colorado’s dry bean production, along with kidney, black, yellow and other varieties. Beans are an important crop here and Colorado supplies beans to markets well beyond our state.

There’s a lot more to Colorado agriculture than what you see at first glance.

Let’s talk about soaking beans 🫘💧

@honouryourfood is here to say: it’s not a faff, it’s a game changer!

Soaking dried beans helps them plump up, cook more evenly and become easier to digest. And all it takes is water, time and zero effort.

The gold standard:
Cover beans with plenty of cold water and leave overnight. That’s it.

Forgot?
No drama. Boil for 5 minutes, turn off the heat and leave to sit for 1 hour. Done.

A quick “bean bath” today means soft, creamy beans tomorrow - ready to bang into soups, stews, salads and more.
