One of my goals this summer was to get back into urban sketching & it’s been so lovely. It teaches me to pay attention to the world in a different way & also get over my fear of drawing in public (“I’m not done yet! It will look better!” I always want to shout when someone peeks.)

So as the outdoor sketching season winds down, here’s a few drawings I’ve done over the past few weeks in Toronto, New York and London.

All the inks are on location & for the most part the watercolours at home. These were all done using @etchr_lab hot press sketchbooks which tbh are a dream to draw and paint on.

I was early to meet my friend 3 weeks ago and took that opportunity to sketch Honest Ed’s Alley in @mirvish.village. I’m obsessed with this vibrant alley and how this painting turned out. Hello to the staff I met and chatted with while I stood there for over an hour ☺️

I lived in this area during university over 20 years ago, and have seen this intersection completely transformed in that time. I’m excited to see how lively a gathering space it will be for years to come.

Sketching with @usktoronto in East Chinatown.

I love how stimulating this intersection is. There’s so much happening, and so many people have something to say.

We overheard a local tell a visiting sketcher that Toronto is too ugly and he should go to Montréal.

Toronto IS ugly until you start studying it. I see the beauty in the layers of buildings, people, and everyday life happening.

Toronto reveals itself when I take the time to look.

Fineliner, watercolour, markers for the scene, and acrylic paint markers for the graffiti.

Found an hour to sketch in the V&As Cast Courts on our last day in London.

I sketched the cast (1874) of a bronze baptismal font from Hildesheim Cathedral, Germany (1220-25)

It was snowing last week, and I still can’t accept that March is a winter month in Canada. But I’m a spring girl, so I bring it with me wherever I go 💃🏻🌿🌸
