I am incredibly proud that one of my microscopy images was selected as an Image of Distinction in the 2026 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition! 🔬 @nikonsmallworld

Only 76 images were recognized out of more than 1,800 submissions worldwide.

After looking through previous winners, I believe this may be the first time a human trigeminal ganglion (or human sensory neurons) has been featured in the competition since its inception in 1975.

A small win for translational pain neuroscience! ✊️

So incredibly proud of Dr. Ashley Plumb — she just received an NIH F32 grant! This is the first F32 award for the Sadler Lab and only the third such active award at @ut_dallas !

The F32 is a competitive postdoctoral fellowship awarded by @nihgov — Ashley’s $156,128 grant will fund the next two years of her salary in the Sadler Lab. During this time Ashley will study how stress-induced changes in the gut microbiome contribute to migraine headache susceptibility and development. Huge shout out to Ashley’s co-sponsor and migraine expert, Dr. Greg Dussor, for help with model development and for asking the hard questions during application preparation! We can’t wait to see what Ashley learns over the next two years — stay tuned! 💩🤕

Very proud of our undergrads who rocked it at SPUR today!

SPUR is UTD’s end-of-summer event that highlights the incredible research going on across campus. Our four full-time undergraduates got to show off what they’ve accomplished over the past two months in poster presentations and it couldn’t have gone any better!

Special shout out to @utdpaincenter and @utdhonorscollege for supporting programs that allow students to work in the lab full-time — these opportunities can be total career game changers!

💜 Thanks to the passion and advocacy of one remarkable graduate student, June is now officially Migraine & Headache Awareness Month in Texas.

Mandee Schaub, a PhD candidate in the Systems and Cellular Neuroscience Track at UT Dallas, has dedicated herself to helping people living with headache disorders.

Mandee's journey with migraine has stretched from the lab bench to Capitol Hill. Most recently, she brought her advocacy to the Texas Governor's office, resulting in an official proclamation of June as Migraine & Headache Awareness Month in Texas, raising statewide recognition of the condition.

We’ve reached the end of our DRG tour — last stop is the central terminal which finds itself mixed into the chaos of the spinal cord. Once action potentials reach this part of the neuron, they cause neurotransmitters to be released. These molecules excite neighboring neurons, effectively continuing the pain conga line up to the brain.
