Featured on @abcnews_au! Proud to see our Product Design students Isabella Bucknell (@bellabucknelll) and Freya Rollo (@freyarollo) featured on ABC News for their innovative approaches to climate resilience and urban livability 🌏

As Australia experiences record-breaking heat, Isabella’s Terracol system reimagines street lighting as a passive cooling solution, helping reduce surrounding temperatures and improve outdoor comfort. Freya’s Luft air purification module is designed for train platforms, creating cleaner air for commuters in high-pollution environments.

These projects highlight how student-led, human-centred design can respond to urgent real-world challenges such as extreme heat and air quality, while rethinking the future of public infrastructure.

Congratulations to Isabella and Freya on this well-deserved recognition!

We’re so proud of our alumni - Andrew Simpson, Vincent Tsang, Zachary Hanna and Angus W. for creating work that’s not only beautifully considered, but deeply connected to culture, sustainability, and community.

After shining a light on the issue of single-use plastic soy fish with their iconic Light Soy lamp, the team at Heliograf in partnership with @vertdesignstudio has introduced Holy Carp! - made from natural bagasse plant pulp. It’s plastic-free, home-compostable, and designed to disappear, not drift forever. 🐟

Three months ago, Nubo was just an idea. After a lot of hard work, it’s become something we’re really excited to share.

This sketch shows our original concept presented at the Design-a-thon. The raised edge lines were designed to emulate straight tactile tiles that indicate “go” and guide users on where to place the paper to start scanning and embossing.

From the beginning, our goal was to create a device that doesn’t look medical. We drew inspiration from familiar objects like drink bottles and Bluetooth speakers, so Nubo would feel natural in any environment.

There’s still a long way to go, but this is a project we care deeply about. If educational equality matters to you too, follow our journey as we work to make a positive difference.

At the end of July, we were awarded 2nd place for Nubo at the Design-a-thon. It was such an incredible honour, and the support and feedback we received from the judges and mentors really confirmed that we were onto something special, and that we should keep pushing it forward.

It feels like that was ages ago, even though it was only a couple of months back; so much has happened since then!

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve been selected to showcase Nubo at the SXSW Tech and Innovation event in Sydney on October 13–14. It’s an amazing opportunity, and we can’t wait to show how Nubo is growing and evolving.
