恭喜 (congratulations!) to Max Dodson (Political Science ’23), UVM's 14th and final Fulbright grantee this year! Max, an Environmental Studies minor, was offered an English Teaching Assistantship to Taiwan—the fourth UVM applicant to win that award just this year!

Max recently declined his Fulbright award, and will instead matriculate at Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he’ll earn a Master of Arts in International Law and Diplomacy.

Just months ago, Max returned from the Philippines, where he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) specializing in coastal resource management. As a PCV Max conducted field-based ecosystem needs assessments; worked directly with fisherfolk, educating them on environmental regulations impacting their trade; and applied for and managed a $150,000 Bloomberg Philanthropies grant to support 50+ youth-designed climate action projects.

In his letter of recommendation for Max, UVM President Emeritus Thomas Sullivan wrote the following: "In my 46 years in the academy, having taught over 5,000 students...Max stands out as one of my most remarkable students. Having followed his education and career, I know him to be a curious and mature individual with very high standards, expectations, and ambition."

Congratulations, Max, and best of luck in graduate school!

Congrats to Meghan Lee (Political Science and Linguistics ’26), UVM’s latest Fulbrighter to Taiwan! Meg is a member of UVM's club basketball team. She earned her TESOL certificate at UVM and is a steady presence in the Burlington Public Schools after-school programs, where she’s been a core staff member since fall 2022.

Meg was a research intern with the U.S. State Department in Uruguay during the 2024-25 academic year. Upon her return to the U.S., she worked with survivors of interpersonal violence in Baltimore as a summer intern through the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty.

Asked in her Fulbright application about her long-term goals, Meg wrote, "Whether I am teaching English at an international school abroad, developing social studies curriculum, or one day serving with the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the skills I learn as a Fulbright ETA in Taiwan will enable me to build bridges across cultures. I am passionate about inspiring young people to see how interconnected the world truly is, sparking curiosity for travel, meaningful exchange, and global thinking. Learning Mandarin will also help me, as a TESOL instructor, anticipate learner challenges and provide practical, empathetic support, while also allowing me to carry my foreign language skills into diplomatic spaces in the future."

Congratulations, Meg!

Did you know that Old Mill, one of the CAS student and faculty campus hubs, got its name because students thought its design resembled a traditional mill building?

Old Mill has been a central part of UVM’s story for nearly two centuries and is a symbol of UVM’s history and commitment to learning, standing as one of the oldest and most iconic buildings in Vermont. Swipe to learn more! #UVMCAS #OldMill
