Quick trip to Mexico, I saw my fam, many friends and so many other friends I didn’t see this time! I even got to build a small wall with my nice hands :-) thanks to Angel and Esteban for welcoming me, it’s always nice to train at 2400m above sea level lol

Cali, Salento, Medellin (several months late)

I underestimated the feria which resulted in us accidentally spending the night in a motel in Cali our first night (Iykyk) after 2 hotels cancelled on us, it had some interesting artwork to say the least. Once we got that sorted we were able to enjoy all my old haunts, force @pabz to learn salsa (and practice it in the real world) and see the feria that I somehow avoided the 4 years I lived here. I got to see my old friends and a former student and then we headed on to Salento to ring in the new year.

The small mountain town of Salento gave us time to relax and unwind, play tejo (throwing weights at a clay board trying to make gunpowder explode), hike the valley de Cocora trail including the hummingbirds and do a coffee tour, I’ve done so many of these but still learn something new each time. @v.nutschel joined us for NYE where we put Pablo’s new salsa moves into practice in the square and saw families burning little effigies, but didn’t get to see the big ones that we had seen around the town burned.

Then we went to Guatape to climb el peñol and see their colorful zócalos and Medellin to explore the Botero museum and Comuna 13 which has become so crowded in the last 11 years since I was there last.

Thank you to my found family and students for welcoming me back, sharing birthdays, dancing, House of the Dragon, walks, school gossip, museums, arepas cuadradas, card games, lengua de la mariposa, Rio Pance, and so much more with me. I missed you all so much and I’m so lucky I get to go back and see you! Cali, you all, and the farallones will always be home and I’ll always come back. Thank you for the late night deep talks about everything from life, to jobs, to nature and our place in the world, cuddles and more. Thank you to @vale.nutschel and meliconmiel for hosting me and making me feel so at home. I’ll be back soon!
