The house that ABGH has built.

We’re still recovering from an epic night that was The B.I.G. Event - Nashville! A 5th birthday party for the ages. 🎉

In the dopest venue, filled with the rich history of our music and its historical significance, The National Museum of African American Music housed over 200 of us for an unforgettable evening. We networked, expressed our gratitude for our growing community of Black GIs and hepatologists, and celebrated unapologetically for how far we’ve come.

We are so grateful to our membership, our industry sponsors, and our allies for showing up as their authentic selves Monday night.

Leaving feeling completely refueled and activated! Sometimes everyday life can feel like its own little bubble, you settle into familiar routines & without realizing it, become a little complacent. Then you come to NEXUS, and suddenly, you’re wide awake again🤭

You get to witness the incredible work these women of color are doing across their industries, and it reminds you just how much is possible. Seeing it all up close pushes me to imagine more boldly, create more freely, and turn those ideas into reality!

What an incredible experience to be invited to speak at the ABGH Nexus Conference with @blackingastro I’m still taking it all in: reconnecting with friends, meeting new ones, and learning so much from the programming. My notebook is full, and so is my heart.

I was especially moved by @k_jeanpierre Karine , former White House Press Secretary. Hearing her story and all she has accomplished, and continues to accomplish, was a powerful reminder to never let anyone define our worth or our abilities.

There are some rooms where you realize how much energy you’ve been spending translating yourself.

And then you walk into a room where you don’t have to.

That’s what NEXUS felt like for me.

A room full of Black women in medicine who understood the inside joke.

The pressure.

The ambition.

The exhaustion.

The joy.

The complicated dance of wanting to achieve more while also wanting a life outside of the achievement.

And I loved that another feeling too:

Being inspired to step MY game up. 😂

Because these women are DOING THINGS, do you hear me??

Building.

Leading.

Researching.

Creating.

Advocating.

And it didn’t feel like competition! Just beautiful 😍

It felt like possibility.

But one of the most meaningful shifts for me at this point in my career is recognizing that sometimes I get to be the person I needed when I was coming behind someone else.

Nexus creates a space where younger Black women who want to go into medicine, residents, fellows, and colleagues feel comfortable asking each other questions, for help, guidance, whatever!

I sat with folks who wanted medical help for themselves or family member, who wanted a tip for a patient back home, who were interested in building new practices, or students who asked how did you build this practice?

I have benefited from women who opened doors, said my name in rooms I wasn’t in, shared information and said, “Here’s what I wish someone had told me.”

I want to do the same.

Community isn’t only about finding people who pour into you.

Eventually, you get the privilege of pouring back.

Nexus, you’re tradition for me! It felt like going back to my #Spelman days but with all the girls with really good shoes 💁🏽‍♀️🩵

So many #ABGHNEXUS26 highlights this year, but I’ll start with this one: Meeting and chatting with Karine Jean-Pierre (@k_jeanpierre), the 35th (and longest-serving) White House press secretary (2022 to 2025) and senior advisor to President Joe Biden from 2024 to 2025.

Her grace, authenticity, and powerful words were truly inspiring. Thank you, Karine, for continuing to break barriers, leading with purpose, and inspiring so many of us. So glad to have you part of our #ABGH Family.

#abghnexus26 you were an absolute dream come true!

Some rooms don’t just inspire you, they SHIFT something in you! As I shared during my panel, excellence & authenticity can coexist, and this room was such a beautiful, undeniable example of that. Still in AWE of the extraordinary women I had the privilege of connecting with! Women leading boldly, showing up fully as themselves, pouring into one another, and making room for the women coming behind them. NEXUS YOU WILL NEVER NOT BE FAMOUS 🤭❤️

I’m leaving Nexus sooooo inspired, refueled and activated 🥹 with so many new connections, new perspectives, and an even deeper commitment to walk fully in who I am and what I’m called to do!

Every girl and every woman deserves to experience a room like this at least once; the kind of room that reminds you of your power, expands your vision, and sends you home transformed.

Nexus, thank you for creating that room. 🤎✨
