POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is an overdue gratitude post to all the folks who made my 2nd Annual #Hurricane Season Kickoff Party—at the one & only Hurricane House in Bay Saint Louis #Mississippi—a big smash. 200 folks turned out for this celebration of hurricane awareness & preparedness—a truly motley crew of stormchasers, meteorologists, neighbors, mayors of a couple of cities, state officials, popular TV personalities, & beloved legends in the weather world.

It was a hot day—brutal, Mississippi hot—but attendees bravely drank through the heat. 😃 Folks arrived early & the party went full-blast for a couple of hours: the back lawn packed with people, the house packed with people, the driveway packed with people, etc. At the party's peak, I made a short speech in which I toasted Coastal Mississippi's recovery from the cataclysm of Hurricane KATRINA—20 years ago this year—and expressed my admiration for survivors who toiled to rebuild this place. Late in the day, as the party started to wind down, stormchasers wandered out onto the shady back lawn and spontaneously formed a "Confession Circle," in which the person in the middle shared their honest thoughts to a raucous crowd of other weather nerds. There was something strange and magical about it.

GRATITUDE LIST:
* Everyone who attended the party—especially folks that traveled from faraway to get here. ❤
* My main sponsor, @jameshardie! Besides making this big celebration possible, they provide the fiber-cement siding that not only looks beautiful, but protects my home from the hurricanes & violent wind storms we get here. James Hardie is my home's coat of armor. Use Hardie siding to protect your home, too—not just from hurricanes, but moisture, mold, rot, termites, and fire. You can't go wrong with this siding.
* Additional sponsors Campbell Scientific & @r.m._young_company.
* Event Planner Michele Lee (of @dragonflyinthebay) & her team.
* Doug Page of @goodearthrecords.
* Scott Sutherland of @eatblindtiger.
* @lagardesfinewineandspirits.
* Photographer Gregg Martel.
* My neighbors on all sides, who attended the party—and put up with a raucous event!

Here's to us all staying aware and prepared this hurricane season. 👊

Another fantastic weather summit comes to an end 😔 in Colorado. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Steamboat Resort for a few years now and have built some really great friendships with meteorologists from across the US as we learn about wide ranging topics in the field of science and weather.
I really love the mountain and the town known as ‘Ski Town USA’, and I can’t say enough about all the staff that go above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. I am truly thankful!
This was the 35th Annual Summit and I’ll be dreaming of those sweet powder turns for a long time. ⛷️ ❄️
