Ever had that random urge or “instant motivation” (lol) to just rearrange your bookshelves? Well, I did…like at 8pm lastnight when I know it I have work the next day, but noooo…I just had to do it right there and then! 😆. I’m most proud of this shelf because it’s filled with Filipino authors 🥹♥️🙌🏼 As always, thank you for representing us, for showcasing our culture, and most importantly for making us be the main character! #filipino #filipinoauthors #maincharacterenergy #bookstagram #bookish

(P.S. I finally went to bed around 11pm, yall don’t wanna see the state of my bedroom floor…oh you know…just piles of book hauls 😅)

An exclusive interview with Vanessa Lanang

Vanessa stopped by Confessions of an Indie Author to discuss her recent release, It Waits in the Dark.

“I grew up reading books that I rarely, if ever, saw myself represented in,” she says. “I never really thought much about it until I started writing books seeking publication and found a wonderful community of Filipino writers and readers throughout the process. Not only did I want to see characters like myself represented in stories, but also introduce readers to my culture and especially the food. I feel like no matter where you’re from there’s always a way to find connection through food.”

Most writers aren’t struggling because they lack ideas or discipline. They’re overwhelmed by conflicting advice, shifting publishing rules, and pressure to do everything “the right way.” Confessions of an Indie Author is here to cut through that.

quick jaunt to long beach for brunch. bonus: picking up a sound bowl (not pictured), thrifting a red silk dress for $10 (also not pictured), and seeing some familiar faves at @belcantobooks retro row!

less fun: the massive traffic jams on the way home

Happy National Authors Day! ✒️📖

Just because it's no longer Filipino-American History month doesn't mean I'm going to stop spotlighting those within this community 🤭 In honor of today, I wanted to express my love and appreciation for these storytellers who not only create and craft such beautiful books but also those who write stories that represent our culture and community. I had the pleasure of seeing Mia Hopkins, Elle Cruz, Kaye Rockwell, and Vanessa Lanang in this panel hosted by @heartboundbookshop as they shared their journey as Fil-Am women and authors, their views on their identity, and the impact writing has had on them and their world.

#qotd 💭: Who are you celebrating for this year's National Authors Day, and what books do you recommend by them?

This was an amazing and thought provoking author panel. In celebration of Filipino American History Month, @heartboundbookshop hosted @vanessalanangauthor @miahopkinsxoxo @thenomaddreamer @ellecruzauthor These wonderful women discussed their successes, their hardships, and many more topics that I don’t feel get spoken enough about. I appreciate them being able to have an open discussion and I love them all even more than I did before.

Thank you @teofilocoffeecompany for the DELICIOUS drinks! I definitely had more than 1! Thank you @tinymeadowbakes for the baked goodies and to @thenomaddreamer for the pancit (hands down the best I’ve had! Sorry Mom). Huge shoutout to @idealbodychiro for allowing us to use your gorgeous space! Please see them for your wellness needs 😁

I feel blessed to be part of the book community, because this is the kind of community I’ve always been looking for.
