Join us TOMORROW for the opening reception of Undying Yearning — an exhibition honoring the legacy, resilience, and intergenerational camaraderie of Winston-Salem’s historic Black institutions.

From “Katie B.” to the “Big Four” — Anderson, Atkins, Carver, and Paisley — these spaces nurtured generations, fostering not only academic achievement but also community, well-being, and belonging.

Through portraiture, documentary film, sculpture, poetry, and dance, this exhibition brings together multiple art forms to tell a story that deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

FREE Opening Reception
Friday, October 16
6:30 PM
Delta Arts Center | 2611 New Walkertown Rd., Winston-Salem, NC

Featuring artists Johnny Lee Chapman III, Alexandria P. Clay, Sauda Mitchell, Anthony Otto Nelson Jr., and Anthony Patterson — plus a live performance!

Come experience the stories, honor the legacy, and celebrate the history that continues to shape our community.

RSVP for the reception and learn more at undyingyearning.art.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be exhibiting work in Undying Yearning, opening Friday, October 16 at the Delta Arts Center in Winston-Salem, NC!

Michael Williams (@theblackonblackproject) has been doing incredible work preserving the history of Winston-Salem’s Black institutions through the Undying Yearning project. I’ve had the honor of contributing portraits of retired nurses who trained at the historic Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, affectionately known as “Katie B.”

Founded in 1938 to serve Winston-Salem’s Black community, Katie B. was more than a hospital—it was a symbol of Black excellence, led by Black physicians and nurses at a time when segregation denied those opportunities elsewhere. Though the hospital closed in 1970 and was demolished a few years later, its legacy lives on through the women who trained there and continue to gather each year in fellowship.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing these women during their 37th and 38th reunions. Being trusted to help preserve their stories through portraiture is something I don’t take lightly.

I’m grateful to be exhibiting alongside @alexandriapclay, @saudamitchell, @vanitymarrs, and @3rdplacearts as we collectively explore the history and legacy of Winston-Salem’s Black institutions.

Hope to see you there!

Huge shoutout to Otto @vanitymarrs for such an amazing class! 💠✨

We started with pose foundations, moved into runway foundations, and finished the last 30 minutes learning a little choreo. It was the perfect mix of technique, confidence, and performance. 🔥

Thank you, Otto, for coming all the way from Durham to share your talent and energy with our Mosaic Motion Dance community. We loved having you and can’t wait to do it again! 💙
