Delhi Dance Lovers, don’t miss this!

Bharatanatyam exponent and a dear friend of Aalaap, Alarmel Valli is gearing up to present Scent of the Earth on October 30th in Delhi.

An exclusive production that brings together dance, poetry and music in a celebration of nature and life, Scent of the Earth is a truly special work.

One of the most distinguished voices in Bharatanatyam, Alarmel Valli’s work is known for its sensitivity, depth and remarkable ability to bring poetry alive through movement.

In Scent of the Earth, she draws from a rich and varied literary landscape, from Kalidasa’s classical Sanskrit and ancient Tamil Sangam poetry to Vedic hymns and modern Indian poetry, exploring the many moods of nature and our inseparable connection with it.

Swipe the poster for more details.

This time, last week.. 💨 We live with the incredibly good problem of a thriving Carnatic music scene that competes with a bullet train 🚅.
👩‍🏫 Act 1 : The non-glamorous (and hence not pictured) but necessary routine of teaching, aka, regular music classes.
➿ Act 2 : Day-long Carnatic mela featuring CarnatiCalifornia... Bumping into decades-old friend Anirudh Athreya ( @anirudhathreya ) , then and now, an ace Kanjira player. Where we once spent more time in music practice & hitting the competition circuits during school, to now catching up about kids, life comes a long way. Serendipity was still not done. Another of our friends who shared those same times was going to star in Act 3 - cue : Vasudha Ravi.
🌅 Act 3 : Catching the sun on the early flip-side for the Sunrise Singing Workshop. What started as a one-off workshop 8 years ago has been making its steady reappearance over the years given its popularity. This year, we had friend-musician-extraordinaire, Vasudha Ravi ( @vasudharavi.official ) , and veteran musician, Kalaimamani awardee Shri KN Shashikiran ( @shashikirankn ) , come in to share their expert tips from years of thriving in the Carnatic scene.
🎙 Act 4 : A calm-happy-exhausted sort of post-performance picture after our student team delivered a 100% output on 5 intelligent compositions tied together by the thread of Shri Thyagaraja and his disciples, Veenai Kuppaiyyer and Patnam Subramanya Iyer, at the Carnatic Mela, held at Shirdi Sai Parivaar. Our students were joined by a sibling-duo on the violin and mridangam, students of the Bay Area Carnatic power-couple Sandhya Srinath ( @sandhyastrings ) and Srinath Bala ( @srinathbala.layam ). ✨
