● NEUTRA | VDL

The VDL Studio and Residence by the famed Richard Neutra quietly shows the lasting power of simple yet thoughtful design. The footprint, although small, maximizes space through its windows and mirrors, allowing for a beautiful cross-breeze on this rainy Silver Lake day. The way Neutra focuses on the line and plane is a fascinating experiment.

Thank you @vdlhouse for the tour. - JM

Check out Expanded Borders, a symposium exploring the work of leading Mexican architects and the cultural organizations shaping contemporary practice.

We're especially proud to see @calpolypomona / @cpp_arc faculty Sarah Lorenzen and Roberto Sheinberg moderating conversations with an impressive lineup of architects, designers, and cultural leaders from Mexico and Southern California.

October 16 | 2–5 p.m.
USC, Gin Win Auditorium
Free and open to the public (RSVP link in our bio)

Arrive early, take Metro, carpool, or plan ahead for parking.

Spent an afternoon on the banks of Silver Lake @vdlhouse exploring architect Richard Neutra’s family home and studio originally built in 1932 and rebuilt after a fire by his son, Dion, in 1963.

Whilst I am fascinated by a modernist villa in the suburb, this one is the one that I can see myself living in. Located in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of LA (my fav neighbourhood in LA), the Neutra residence is understated, ‘hidden’ away in a quieter street, minding its own business.

It was an honor to be invited by @yamahadesignlab to perform at their LA Design Week party this weekend at the iconic Neutra @vdlhouse. And special thanks to @johnny_le for putting it all together.

Left LA Design Week/end with a longer wishlist and a few people I’d love to know better. Here’s what caught my eye.

Comment DESIGN and I’ll send you the full Sanctuaries LA dispatch.
