The lovely pleasure of celebrating my friend in the way that describes her best: through love. ❤️

If you know Gugulethu, you know she embodies love in the most beautiful, intentional and generous way. So being able to celebrate her by sharing that love with our little angels at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, in partnership with the Smile Foundation, was beyond special.

There are moments in life that remind you exactly why you are here.

Being able to stand in the gap for these incredible children while they are undergoing surgery, then spending time with them through playing, singing, reading and simply being present, melted my heart in ways I cannot fully put into words.

One of the greatest dreams of my life has always been to love African children loudly and intentionally, to remind them that they belong, they are seen, they are worthy, and they are enough.

The Smile Foundation makes that dream even more remarkable by helping children access life-changing surgical and holistic care, giving them not just treatment, but the opportunity to heal, grow and smile with confidence.

To my beautiful friend Gugulethu, thank you for allowing me into your purpose. Thank you for showing me that celebrating a person can be so much bigger than a party. It can be an act of love. It can be service. It can be impact. It can be legacy.

Today, I celebrate you, your heart and the love you pour into the world.

And to every little angel we met today:
You belong. You are enough. You are loved. 🤍

May we never underestimate the power of simply showing up.

What if we treated mental health the same way we treat physical health?

Mental health is part of our human rights, and part of who we are.
This #WorldMentalHealthDay 💚, we’re reminded that mental health care is a constitutional right not a luxury.

In South Africa, help can start at your nearest public clinic, where basic mental health services and referrals are available. NGOs like the South African Federation for Mental Health (SAFMH) and FAMSA also provide counselling and advocacy across the country. Because to deny care, or allow stigma to persist, is to deny human dignity itself.

If you or someone you know, needs support, please reach out to these helplines:

“We have overused [the word Ubuntu] and I think most people now don’t understand it anymore.” - Dr Brigalia Bam

This Women’s Month, we honour Dr Brigalia Ntombemhlophe Bam, distinguished leader, activist, and advocate for human rights and democracy.

From her pioneering work in international church and community movements that united people across faiths and countries, to serving as the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Dr Bam has been central to strengthening South Africa’s democracy and safeguarding free and fair elections.

Her life’s work reflects an unwavering commitment to constitutionalism, equality, and justice; values that continue to inspire generations of South Africans to defend and advance our democracy.🇿🇦

She reminds us that the Constitution is not only a document of rights, but also a living promise of accountability that is “binding, protecting, and affirming”.
