Proper Weapon to Target Match = Suppression

This is an open source, unclassified class based entirely on MCTP 3-01D / ATP 3-21.90, Tactical Employment of Mortars.

Understanding the target size, type, and its degree of protection informs the fire direction center (FDC) which shell/fuze combo to use to achieve your desired effect.

Adjusting rounds on target is critical for a few reasons but every adjusting round is also an opportunity for the enemy to react. Suppression happens in the enemy’s head. To achieve maximum psychological effect, we aim to mass and concentrate fires.

The better we understand and are able to apply a proper weapon to target match, not only can we likely sustain economy of rounds longer by achieving desired effects faster, but we’re also maximizing the compounding effect of surprise on an enemy position.

Your past failures don’t tell you where you belong. They remind you how far you’ve come.

The best Defense is a strong Offense.

Doctrine doesn’t describe the defense as digging in and waiting for the enemy to come and punch you in the mouth. It describes patrols, ambushes, spoiling attacks, depth, and a reserve that is ruthlessly rehearsed and in sync.

Many of you have likely heard the “Prep, flex, depth” explanation of the keys to success for the defense in our preparation, flexibility, and bias to have depth pushed out to remain proactive and anticipatory instead of reactive and flat footed.

At the platoon level, every time a unit in combat ceases movement, it assumes a security posture using the fundamentals of defensive operations (7-1). That is why these ten characteristics need to be second nature.

Maneuver, preparation, mass and concentration, flexibility, use of terrain, mutual support, defense in depth, surprise, knowledge of the enemy, and local security.

Each slide has the manual’s own wording and page.

All are welcome…except for any First Sergeants that are gonna have an issue with low fades, silkies and crayon outfits.

At 21 years old, you should be out enjoying the best years of your life. The age of freedom! For many of us, that meant serving. Some spent their 21st birthday partying in the barracks, while others spent it deployed downrange.

But Trevor, an active-duty Navy sailor and fireman stationed aboard the USS Constitution, is spending his 21st year battling stage four esophageal cancer.

Esophageal cancer is rare, accounting for about 1% of newly diagnosed cancers in the United States. The median age at diagnosis? 69 years old.

At 21, it’s exceptionally rare. Yet here he is.

A former powerlifter who’s deadlifted over 600 pounds. A nonsmoker. A healthy young man in his prime, facing a diagnosis no one saw coming.

Stage four cancer stopped Trevor and his family in their tracks. No known genetic predisposition. No family history. No clear explanation for why this happened to him.

The O’Neil family has tried everything they can to keep Trevor here on earth. Their search brought them to Envita Medical Center, where his treatment is being paid for entirely out of pocket. Trevor’s dad, Tim, has stepped away from his business in Massachusetts and put his home up for sale to help pay for his son’s care.

Scroll through the images.

We’ve been able to send just under $20,000 to Envita for Trevor’s treatment. But we need your help.

▶️ Our ask to you all reading this: Instead of buying Trevor a beer, buy him a shot at life.

Consider donating to fund Trevor’s week 18 and 19 treatments using the link in our bio 🍻
