The Rake Hill Climb | Set 1

Strangely enough, The Rake is one climb I’ve never actually ridden. Walking up it on the day was enough to get the heart rate going, so I’ve got even more respect for everyone who lined up to take it on.

Proper steep, with a handrail in places, and an atmosphere to match. Crowds lining the road, a commentator on the speakers and some of my favourite riders absolutely grafting their way up the climb.

This is what makes hill climbs special. The effort, the atmosphere and watching people push themselves to their limits.

Set 1 is here. Find yourself, tag your mates and let me know which is your favourite shot.

More to come.

Next stop home.

Early start as the pub was calling.

Set off from Leeds ice arena around 8am, bit chill in the air which can’t complain about the over 2 days were better then expected for the time of year.

@jack_r_davey was there to meet Glen and I, with supplies ( back up bottle and an extra tube after the faff of the previous day)

The route was the easiest of the 3 what only one real climb which was over and done in the first 2 miles. And well you could say it was all latterly down hill with a tail wind.

On arrival we was greeted by representatives from both Andy’s and mnd and most of all family.

So that’s it done

Big thanks to @velotooluk, @fincci.bike, Jack and everyone who donated

Another set from the Monsal Hill Climb - with more in the pipeline

This is why I love hill climbs. You get some of the best riders in the UK, all turning up on the same road and leaving absolutely everything out there. No hiding, no saving it for later just a few minutes of suffering and a fight to the line.

Which is your favourite photo from the set?

Calder Divide Trail 2026 - @yorkshiredivide

Decided to bash the short gravel route out in a day but it didn’t take long to be reminded of how relentless some of the off road sections are.

With a very wet and windy start I pushed on and it wasn’t long until my brain was vibrating in my skull, arms, hands and back all hurting on the rough stuff.

Later in the day I was treated to some welcome sunshine but 18mph head winds at some of the course’s toughest sections got in my head and all I could do was swear out loud 🤣

Despite all of this I had an absolute blast again. The event was sold out this year and had double digits on a waiting list.

Adrian puts so much thought and effort into these events which are themed around our beautiful county and you even get to know the history surrounding the areas covered on route.

Huge thanks to Adrian, Helen and all the support team who make these intimate events so special.

See you again soon!
