POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Since I retired from boxing, I’ve been struggling to find my footing in this new reality. For nearly 25 years, my life revolved around my sport. I took for granted how much structure and clarity it gave me - boxing was the final say on pretty much every decision I made, big or small. But there’s something exciting about having the freedom to explore the parts of myself that have been sidelined for so long and build a new structure for myself.

While I’m proud as hell of being a boxer, I’ve never wanted to be known only as that. Writing is one of the ways I want to show more of who I am.

Long before I stepped into a boxing gym, I was a kid who loved getting lost in books and dreamed of becoming a writer. Not in the sense of being a published author, but someone who could put their thoughts into words on paper. And that’s the plan: return to writing as a way to bring the questions and interests that have largely lived in my head, or in select conversations, out into the world. Not just to share what I already know or believe, but to challenge myself, explore new ideas, and figure out who I want to be in this next chapter.

I’m a competitive person. I know how important it is to have a good stable around you to push you to get better. So I decided not to do this alone. I’m proud to introduce QUASAR: A Bl@ck Tranz Writing Kollective, formed with @dollpartspermillion @iseeyousirlex @venuskiithomas

We’re four Black trans people with different lives, experiences, and perspectives, creating a space to write about whatever interests us. And in a world where our lives are constantly debated and our intellectual labor undervalued, we’re making sure the work gets compensated. Each of us will contribute one piece a month, with subscription revenue split evenly among the four of us. I dusted off the rust and wrote the first piece - it’s up now. It’s about retirement, choosing myself, and why we’re building QUASAR.

If you’re interested in getting to know the parts of me that exist beyond boxing, or discovering the brilliant minds of my three fellow writers, subscribe to our Substack. Our first 100 subscribers can join at $8/month after that, the price goes to $10.

LOCATION DROP!! Join us tomorrow to demand these politicians taking center stage as “allies” take action and demand that Governor Moore change the jurisdiction so the Attorney General can charge the cops that murdered Donnell! WE are their constituents, Donnell was their constituent and we demand these politicians claiming to represent us actually do their job and fight for our lives! F*ck pinkwashing corporate pride, the killer cops they march beside and spineless politicians ignoring families seeking justice. Justice for Donnell!!!!
