For the past few weeks, I’ve been part of an incredible learning journey with the Kuenyehia Prize Art Vantage Mentorship Programme. @kuenyehiaprize @philanthropic.consortium

From online sessions exploring the art market, professional practice, and the realities of building a sustainable career, to four immersive days of onsite training, every conversation challenged the way I think about my work and where it can go.

One of the highlights was visiting artists who once stood where we stand today and went on to become Kuenyehia Prize winners. Seeing their studios, hearing their journeys, and learning from their experiences was a reminder that every practice evolves through patience, consistency, and community. We also spent time in museums, engaging with art, history, and the many ways stories are preserved and shared.

I’m grateful to have been among the 30 artists shortlisted for this mentorship, and thankful to everyone at the Kuenyehia Prize Art Vantage programme, the facilitators, mentors, friends, and fellow artists who made the experience so meaningful.

SILENT STRENGTH
The Silent Strength is Wepea Vera’s debut experimental collection that pays tribute to the often-unseen power of Black female artistry.
By bridging the visual language of Vera’s art with contemporary fashion, the collection serves as a testament to the creative strength and enduring legacy of Black female artisans across generations
This collection aims to spark conversations about the significance of Black female artistry and its undeniable impact on culture, identity, and the future.
The result is a collection that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant a celebration of the stories of strength, creativity, and resilience that have shaped the experiences of Black female artists throughout history.

an exhibition focuses on recycling, repurposing, and raising issues on the environment.

Fighting against pollution, this art of selfless commitment to protecting the environment becomes more urgent.

This exhibition comes alive as our discarded flip-flop speaks more to us in the visual probe translating various colors, textures, and different patterns. These works reflect the importance of the material in our community and how recycling and repurposing make it important.
