I was honoured when my friend @verakersting an amazing painter (trussss)asked me to join her workshop on patchwork activism and propaganda at @tentrotterdam (thank uuuu💗)A subject that felt especially alive with everything happening in France right now.

When it was time to make something, I quickly realised I had no idea what was technically possible. This piece meant something to me, so I really didn’t want to mess it up. I started with the only things I could trust: colour, shape and intuition.

That led me to the two halves of a heart.

The first idea wasn’t heartbreak. It was about the “other half”. How we are taught to search for someone else to complete the heart, when maybe finding love within yourself is the completion.

I first tried making the hearts from foam paper. Vera told me “bro dat foam ain’t gon work ur beautiful revelation will disappear in the washing machine” she showed me a pile of fabrics I could pick from to iron in my piece

That’s where I found a piece with the word PATH on it.

And the work began to explain itself.

The split heart could now also hold all the heartbreaks we meet along the way. Romantic, friendship, work, life, dreams. The dark parts. The uncomfortable parts. Not places where the path ends, and not detours from it. They are part of the same path.

You move through them. The path continues, slowly narrowing towards whatever truly matters to you: love, satisfaction, purpose or perhaps just peace

I didn’t know what I was making when I started. I was already on the path bby xox

“Botanologia: Snacks from the pacific”
🌮🍚🍢🧋🌴🦈☀️

🏴‍☠️ @autoconstruido

.
🗣️ My last public performance of the year.
.
This Friday, the 6th of March, I’ll be performing at Jazz, Coffee & Wines in The Hague with Seb Wrincq, Emilio Maggiore and Branko Valchev.
.
Together we bring "In Their Shadow", a tribute to three vocalists who have long been guiding lights for me in my vocal development: Abbey Lincoln, Miriam Makeba and Nina Simone. Women who used their voices not only to sing, but to confront injustice.
.
My mother taught me that a voice is more than sound. It is something you carry with responsibility.
.
After this concert I will be stepping away from the public stage for a while. This will be my last performance of the year. I want to devote time to my making practice, my family, and the work that grows behind the music.
.
You are warmly invited to come and listen.

Hot off the heels of their @sgbiennale launch, @chaosbyknn is proud to present a very special snippet of work by the talented RRD @erreerrede (group) and @verakersting. ❤️‍🔥😎 Red de Reproducción y Distribución, or Reproduction and Distribution Network, are a Mexico City based collective that reimagines the public realm by reclaiming existing systems of reproduction and distribution through editorial and audiovisual projects. 🇲🇽🖨🎧

Presented in the form of a collection of self-pirated appropriations in constant discussion, this exhibition is a reflection on the concept of reproductions: prints, zines, shirts, and the genealogy of printing machines. 🫡🏴‍☠️ These works bring together examples of graphic arts to examine the development of these fields over the last century, as well as their role in popular culture. 🤔📚

👁 PS: We have a couple of interactive sculptures for you to meet, but no spoilers! Come and discover them yourselves! 🤭
