This week we are celebrating accessible trails. My friend Sharon and I hiked the Perimeter Path at Bombardier Park in Milton and the Milton Town Forrest. The first three pictures are from the Perimeter Path and the second three are from the Milton Town Forrest. The perimeter path is about a mile long and circles Bombardier park; it has a story walk and a community garden. The accessible portion of the Milton town forest trail is just over a mile out and back and includes a beautiful nature viewing platform with accessible seating. 15 of the 38 Vermont Dog Hiking Challenge trail locations include ADA accessible portions. Remember, @trailfinder_vtnh is in the process of adding information to trail listings so that you can make the determination about whether a trail is right for you based on things like surtace, width, slope, and trailhead access. Visit the VT Dog Hiking Challenge website to learn more! Hike on Vermont! 🥾🐕‍🦺🍁

🎬 A BIG MILESTONE FOR MAMBA. A GREAT FILM. A MORE INCLUSIVE TRAIL COMMUNITY. 🚵‍♀️

Join us Tuesday, October 27, at the historic Savoy Theater in downtown Montpelier for a special screening of the award-winning documentary Best Day Ever!

Set in Vermont’s Green Mountains, Best Day Ever follows adaptive mountain bikers Greg Durso and Allie Bianchi as they navigate the challenges of life with a disability and discover freedom, grit, and belonging through mountain biking. It’s an inspiring story about the power of the outdoors and what happens when more people have the opportunity to experience it.

And that message hits close to home.

This summer, MAMBA volunteers and partners wrapped up a major adaptive trail improvement project at North Branch River Park! Together, we widened seven bridges, expanded tight switchbacks, and improved narrow, off-camber trail sections to make the network more accessible for adaptive mountain bikes (aMTBs).

Six years ago, MAMBA built these trails. Today, thanks to an incredible community effort, even more riders can enjoy them. That’s something worth celebrating!

We’re bringing this film to Montpelier to celebrate that milestone, recognize the amazing people who helped make it happen, and keep working toward a future where outdoor recreation is for everyone.

A huge thank-you to our project partners: Black Cat Builders, Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA), Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, Montpelier Parks, Cabot Creamery, and Onion River Outdoors!

📅 WHEN: Tuesday, October 27, 2026
🕠 DOORS: 5:30 PM | Film starts at 6:00 PM
📍 WHERE: Savoy Theater, 26 Main Street, Montpelier

It was a beautiful fall day at the Vermont Council on Rural Development’s @vtrural Leadership Summit at @vermontstate_castleton! The @nekcollaborative was honored to moderate a conversation on Safe Streets, Accessible Recreation & Inclusive Mobility alongside friends from @vermontadaptive @vtcil @vermontlandtrust and @uvtrails

We were also grateful to celebrate longtime @vtrural leader Paul Costello and his well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

And what a joy to watch Kate Baxter share statewide about @vermonts_northeast_kingdom’s own Lunenburg community and its incredible efforts!

🍂 A BIG MILESTONE FOR NORTH BRANCH 🚲

As the leaves fell on Sunday morning a volunteer crew put the final screws into a bridge on Sap Sucker opening the majority of North Branch’s terrain to adaptive bikes.

A year ago, MAMBA partnered with VMBA and Vermont Adaptive to identify ways to make our trails work for more riders. Since then, we’ve widened seven bridges, expanded tight switchbacks, and improved narrow, off-camber sections to make North Branch more accessible to wider-tracked bikes.

There’s more work to do, but that last screw marks an important milestone: North Branch is now an adaptive-friendly trail system.

For MAMBA, this project is about removing barriers and making the outdoor recreation we love accessible to more people in our community. We’re proud that trails we built six years ago can now be enjoyed by even more riders.

This project wouldn’t have happened without an incredible group of partners and volunteers. We want to especially thank Dave & Ezra of Black Cat Builders, Montpelier Parks, Cabot Creamery, VMBA, Vermont Adaptive, Onion River Outdoors and Louis Arevalo who helped ensure the success of this project.

If you want to help MAMBA continue to build fun, accessible, inclusive, connected trails that strengthen our community, become a member or donate through the links in our bio.

See you out there!
