First day climbing at the Cirque in over 20 years. Fun, short, approach on the ladder. A nice warm up on the first half of Freedom Tree.

What a great morning! A joint cadre of military students attending @dinfos_official (Defense Information School) are working on completing their final capstone film project and members of @verticalvetsrocks stepped in to lend a hand! We spent the day capturing a solid climbing session at @sportrock in Alexandria and got to learn about their training program before they go back out into the field and fleet. We were lucky to have them and excited to be part of the finished product.

Quick session at Hooes Rd today. Everything Bagel V3 and Spliff Shift Route V4. Both felt about the same grade. Both are about controlling the same sloper but with different hands.

Big news, Sportrock is growing!

We’re excited to share that Sportrock Lorton is officially on the way, opening by Summer 2026.

Our first bouldering-only gym is taking shape inside the historic Lorton Reformatory cafeteria, grounded in community, designed for seasoned climbers as well as folks just starting out. Expect world-class bouldering, family and youth programming, a fully equipped fitness gym for next-level training, and a dedicated yoga studio – all just 20 minutes from the 60ft rope walls of Sportrock Alexandria.

A Sportrock membership gives you access to all of our gyms in Lorton, Alexandria, Sterling and Gaithersburg.

We’re just getting started and will be sharing updates as the build comes to life.

👉 Join the interest list to stay in the loop.

🪖 Attention veterans, active-duty personnel, and reservists, you’re invited to our next Vertical Vets meetup at Sportrock Rio on Thursday, 11/20! 🪖

Vertical Vets is a climbing group dedicated to bringing veterans, active-duty, and reserve military personnel together through shared challenge and camaraderie. No climbing experience is needed, just come ready to move, connect, and be part of the community!

Active Sportrock members can register for free, and non-members can join for $15 (includes a day pass and gear rentals)! Image of a group of people with their arms around one another, standing in front of a tall climbing wall and smiling for a group photo. There is a text overlay that says "Vertical Vets".
