A bit of the “making of” of our @ibizapavilion in Venice…partly in the workshop in Ibiza, a field in Switzerland on the way to Italy, and in the piazza in Venice…

About The Ibiza Pavilion:

In May, a group of artists from or connected to the island of Ibiza travelled to another island…the famous island city of Venice, during the opening days of the Biennale, and created a pirate exhibition.

Working primarily in public space and in a small pizzeria well-loved by locals, we constructed our own art pavilion…the @ibizapavilion !

Our concept was, of course, ironic and tongue-in-cheek (Ibiza is obviously not officially represented at the Biennale), but it was simultaneously a commentary on the hierarchies and exclusivity of the art world, and a very earnest effort to bring community-based art directly to the people of Venice.

Thank you @white_ibiza for featuring us in your beautiful magazine

“Set just a few steps away from the golden sands of Santa Eulalia, Olas Gallery is the island-inspired art space founded by renowned photographer and longtime Ibiza resident Sofia Gomez Fonzo. The Chilean-born gallerist has been documenting island life in all its glory since her arrival in 2011 and possesses an innate understanding of its creative scene. Her strong connection to so many colourful characters, visual storytellers and talented artists is what makes Sofias curation so special - the authentic spirit of Ibiza shines through in every exhibition.

Committed to showcasing the work of local photographers, painters, sculptors, artisans, writers, jewellers and even performance artists, rotating exhibitions and special events take place at Olas Gallery all year round, changing with the seasons - just like Ibiza itself. Absolutely everything on display can be taken (or shipped) home, from the impressive artworks and awe-inspiring landscape photography that line gallery walls to the cornucopia of trinkets and objets filling the boutique’s shelves - creative gifts that truly channel the island’s soul.”

WYLDER X ART

Our newest retreat concept, created alongside the timing of @canartfair

We began & finished the retreat with the quote;

‘We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.’

Art has a way of slowing us down. When we really look, we are present. We notice the colours, the textures, the tiny details we might otherwise overlook, and in doing so, we often begin to notice more within ourselves too.

There is no right or wrong way to experience art. Every artwork offers a different perspective, and every viewer brings their own.

Research has even shown that spending just 20 minutes viewing original works of art can reduce cortisol (our primary stress hormone) by around 20%, reminding us that art doesn’t just inspire us creatively, it changes how we feel.

Our hope is that everyone left feeling not only creatively inspired, but more present, curious, and more open to finding the beauty in everything.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the incredible artists, galleries and creative spaces who welcomed us along the way.

TEXTURES OF TIME // VERNISSAGE TUESDAY 2nd JUNE // 18:00 - 22:00 at Olas Gallery, Santa Eulalia - Ibiza @olasgalleryibiza

Time in Ibiza is a multilayered presence.

Olas Gallery presents ‘Textures of Time’, a collaborative exhibition and exploratory conversation in photography and clay, by Sofia Gomez Fonzo (@sofiagomezfonzo / @olasgalleryibiza) and Rachel Weschke (@vessel_rooftop_studio)

In allowing life to unfold, we also make space for the unforeseen: for tension, for rupture, for the quiet emergence of the unexpected. These so-called accidents are not interruptions, Sofia and Rachel work from within this threshold, inviting contingency into their practice and allowing the work to be shaped by elemental encounters.

From 2nd June to 4th July at Ibiza local art gallery Olas Gallery, Santa Eulalia

There’s a whole lotta full moon madness – and maybe just a little bit of magic – in Ibiza this week, with many of our favourite venues hosting special dinners and parties in homage to the impressive Blue Moon. There are also two cool new exhibitions to add to your list of must-sees – visit @estudio_laterna and @olasgalleryibiza – and pop-up culinary events at @thestandardibiza and @theunexpectedibizahotel, plus the north’s best vinyl night returns to @miraloungeibiza.

And there’s plenty more! Swipe through to see our editor’s selection of the best things to do on the white isle this week. Hit the link in our bio to check out the full calendar and while you’re there, sign up to receive our regular newsletters to stay up to date with the latest events in Ibiza.

Ibiza Pavilion @labiennale
My dear collaboratora @margheritachi curated the collective of @ibizapavilion, we presented our collab TABULA RASA, and all together we transformed Campo Santa Margherita into a place of shared practices, art, a meeting point of hearts, joy and ideas, the symbolic act of peeling and eating eggs, lots of pizza, unforgetable moments and memories, laughter and synchronicities :) i thank all of you fantastic human beings who came, participated and shared this experience with us, biggest thank you @victoria_genzini @gabrieledellamaddalena for making this happen an @pizzaalvolovenezia for letting us take over 🍕@connectingbrains in Venice now ✌🏽
